We're looking to move to Sarasota and have visited from California. CA, of course is absurdly expensive and getting more so, it seems, by the day. So we're bailing, and our cost of living should decrease by about 35-40%! If it will save us $30K a year+, I'm willing o help neighbors plant Trump and Hillary vote signs. (I guess that makes me a liberal capitalist?)
Contrary to this person's posting, it seems like a lot of the real estate action, at least in downtown Sarasota, is attracting typical, and rich NYC "liberal" types, with new condo buildings going up with prices starting at $2M in a couple of them! (And of course, for a small town, Sarasota has the culture, a great performing arts center, music and arts festivals, some fine restaurants, etc.). It reminds us of Santa Barbara, CA, which, we really like.
So think about it this way. Sarasota is being - gentrified! Much, like Brooklyn NY, South Beach/Miami Beach, 1/4 of Pittsburgh, South Street in Phila. and so on.
Now if you are living inland a ways, then your description doesn't surprise. But then, you shouldn't hate people just because they disagree with you. You apparently hate republicans enough to move. Calm down or folks will find you as enjoyable to be around, as you find republicans to be. Peace!
