Family-friendly, nice people

Like any Midwestern town, Springfield is full of friendly people and is a great place to raise kids. It's safe, and cost of living is pretty low. But pay is low compared to other cities in the region. The climate is ever-changing, so if you don't like the weather, just wait a day or two. It will completely flip. If you're in the healthcare field, there are two large hospitals so you will likely find a good job. From what I've heard, the schools here are so-so. As part of the bible-belt, Springfield is home to some extreme religious groups. You can't go downtown on a Saturday night without running into protestors with signs reading "The Party Ends In Hell". No kidding. Nothing ruins a fun evening out like strangers shoving religion down your throat. I'm Christian, but if I wanted a lecture on the Ten Commandments, I'd go to church, not outside of a bar. If you're liberal, you may feel out of place. The majority of people here are pretty conservative. After living here for 4 years, I've experienced pretty much all there is to experience. Besides a nice mall, Bass Pro Shop, and Branson nearby, there's not much here. If you want to live somewhere with a variety of activities, consider a larger city.
