St. George Utah Area

We are originally from Southern California and moved to the St. George area about nine months ago for work-related reasons. What a shocker! The surrounding areas are gorgeous, with red rock galore. But the cities (St. George, Washingon, Santa Clara, Ivins, Hurricane, etc.) are fairly dismal. The majority of neighborhoods are run down, stores are old. The mall is tiny. We have a few chain restaurants, but very few others, although the fast food chains are heavily represented. (Take that as a hint as to the population.) Once you've used your annual pass to Zion National Park a dozen or so times, there's not much else to do here. Houses are extremely expensive, almost at California prices. Weather? Extremely hot from May through September. (We hit the 100s in MAY.) Pay? Seriously low, for the cost of living. I was shocked at the prices in the grocery stores. There is also a strong Mormon/LDS undercurrent here, which is somewhat unnerving to an outsider.
The plus side? Las Vegas is a 1.5 hour drive, and there's very little traffic here. Looking forward to going home. Soon.
