"good Ol Boy" is putting it mildly. The slogan for this town is .."come on vacation, leave on Probation, back on Violation". The local economy is dead, with exception of the retirees, locally owned businesses struggle. The answer to this dilemma is to "shake down" the citizens. The Local police department has a stamp with the Judges signature on any warrant and can enter your home or business. They know, after 30 days in a jail that has so many health code violations and stomped on civil liberties. Everyone is placed on daily reporting for drug testing (even if violation has nothing to do with drugs and no charges for such) 30$ a test called as much as two/three times a week, monthly monitoring $60 once a month, classes which very in amounts. If you cannot get taxes , business or personal, or a large restitution amount at once because the general population does not have it.. you take daily, weekly, and monthly payments for YEARS. I could not believe that the Guntersville City Police have a BOAT. Never mind no jurisdiction which should fall in the hands of the state troopers of Alabama or the Game warden, the Chief of Police is driving, searching, and holding citizens on the lake maintained by TVA. WOW! I would not move here for ANY amount of money if you are like me Jewish, or Black, Gay, Woman, etc. It truly is like stepping 50 years back in time, but without the quaint cuteness of "loving your neighbor" but more like the horror of deliverance!
