Hollywood gets old, quick

Hi. I'm originally from New England and now live in Hollywood, right behind the Kodak Theater. It's nice because I like to hike and be outdoors, and we're close to the desert, mountains and the beach. But it is VERY expensive, and tiresome. There is also a very high crime rate, my car has been broken into more times than I can count. I'm looking for a smaller city or town to live in but am afraid my pay will be greatly affected.
