Agreed that drivers are pretty bad. Never saw someone cross the centerline to pass another car that was going the speed limit ON A CITY STREET, or passing slower cars on the shoulder of a highway, until I moved here, and now I see these things at least once a week. Actually not the worst place to be a bicyclist (I find it better than Portland), but heaven help you if you're on foot: you are on the bottom of the hierarchy, one step below wild turkeys (I'm not kidding). Drivers won't stop for crosswalks - even marked ones with flashing lights, let alone implied crosswalks, and when they get a red light drivers pull into the crosswalk instead of behind it, forcing pedestrians to weave around them. The absolute dominance of the self-involved car driver is pretty incredible here.
No mosquitoes this year (2021). We're having a drought. In a normal year they can be bad once you get out of town or on the fringes of the metro area, but most years the mosquito control district does a pretty good job of keeping them from being too bad.
