Review of Rifle, Colorado

Our own government set off Nuclear bombs in the US
Star Rating - 9/6/2021
I love the Western Slope!! While there are a lot of good things to be said about the Western Slope of Colorado, which Rifle is, there are some concerning things as well!! Lots of sunshine, almost no rain, large numbers of snakes, short supply of water, hunters paradise, Colorado River recreation. But, most alarming is that the federal government exploded a nuclear bomb 8300 ft below the surface on Sept 10, 1969!! The bomb was twice the size of the one's dropped in Japan during WW2! The bomb was used to release natural gas deposits in the limestone rock. While it worked the area is somewhat radioactive! Also, nearby New Castle has the longest burning fire in North America!! Some 130 years!!
