Review of Mesquite, Nevada

Boom town gone bust
Star Rating - 10/6/2011
Now that this Nevada desert boom town has long gone bust, those who can afford to leave by realizing an incredibly depleted equity in property values are packing up and moving elsewhere. In a city that has always been geared towards the geriatric community, the young and restless, and familes alike are discriminated against. Those who are a member of a minority group, whether it be of race or political views of anything other than extreme right-wing, will be targeted by the local justice. With all but two casinos shut down, and with hundreds of vacant and unfinished homes remaining, there is little to offer in this miserable desert valley.

We just moved to Mesquite and are a mixed couple. He is full blooded Native American from Calif. We get some hostile looks from a few hillbillies and then there are some super nice people. The sun is rude so we will stay a few months and move back to Calif.

Looking to retire in two years and Mesquite is in our top 3 along with Myrtle beach and Marco Island (Fla). Been to all three and while Mesquite have suffered through difficult times I can assure you that Myrtle and Marco are in the same if not worst condition. We live in the east and my brother lives in Vegas (no-way) so we always go to mesquite for peace and quiet when we are out to visit. Wife likes Myrtle but I like Mesquite so we have a big decision to make. I love golf so the two are pretty comparable.
