Review of Atlanta, Georgia

Pros and Cons. Bottom line: lots to do, horrible t
Star Rating - 1/8/2008
Graduating from a top 5 university that is very liberal and then moving to Atlanta was a culture shock.
Pros-
Atlanta has a lot to offer in terms of activities and a great night life.
Friendly people
Good job market
Affordable housing/apartments in the nice areas of town such as Buckhead, Vinings, Marietta, etc.
Great restaurants and night life

Cons:
Horrible Traffic despite the great highway system
Very uneducated population. Many close minded, racist, religous extremists (I'm white by the way).
Sprawl. Very spread out city.
Public transportation system is a bit of a joke (MARTA). Really only good from getting back and forth from the airport or the occasional sporting event.

Atlanta does have a good job market but if you are a black woman like me, the mobility is not there. I use to go to school in Atlanta, majoring in Accounting. Didn't like it so decided to transfer back to my home, NYC. Since I transferred, I completed Bachelor's, did my Master's, received a job at one of the top public accounting firms, completed my CPA and now I've just been promoted to manager making well over six figures with a top corporation. A couple of my classmates from Atlanta who also majored in Accounting, finished their Bachelor's and the only opportunities available to them were bookkeeping positions. Six years later they didn't have the money or the drive to complete a Master's program or their CPA and they are still in the same bookkeeping positions. Cities like Atlanta drain you and make you think it's okay to be stagnant and what they call "comfortable." New York may be a tough ruthless city but it keeps me striving for more and every year the cost of living goes up, it makes me want to go out and get more for myself, while also having a good time in the city. I can't say the same for Atlanta.
