Phoenix's public transportation is a complete and total joke. This city is growing wider not taller. So.... it takes you forever to get anywhere. I am a lucky one, I own a car. So what does the now 5th largest city in the U.S. have to offer you to get from one side to the other???? Buses?! Thats right buses! But wait?! They are building a light rail system that will cover just about 1/100 of the cities size. Great planning Az! It just makes me mad that they saw the population getting larger and did not do anything about it. The Phoenix Metro area could have been the city of the future and instead we are playing catch up to a growth that looks like it will never

Low Cost of Living for the "Big City Enthusiast" - 12/17/2007
I am a single woman with an average income and I have always wanted the "big city" feel at an affordable cost. I am living in downtown Phoenix within walking distance of shopping, entertainment, parks & rec, the new lightrail and an amazing view of the city from my living room & bedroom windows. The cost of the apartment (1br. 760 sf) is a mere $700. The apartment complex was built a few years ago and the management company keeps it as high quality as they can, which isn't bad! I feel very safe and relaxed. I've lived in the Phoenix valley (Glendale, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler) for 19 years and this is, by far, my favorite

Whew! I'm still here, hand me a fan - 12/16/2007
Phoenix, is hot, dry and kinda tired. I left my car in NC thinking they had good public transportation here, well they didn't. The schools are not what my son needs, he's developmentally challenged and a lot of the schools here want to segrigate dc children from the general ed classes. I find a lot of the people to be cold and intollerent; Culturally there is nothing to do, you have to pay for every museum, park or event.
On the upside, is the winters, very nice, jobs, a plenty, even if you don't speak english.... if you like large cities with a country feel this is the place for

PLEASE RUN FOR YOUR LIFE !!!!!!! - 12/15/2007
I was born and raised in chicago,IL which have all had it's pluses and minuses. But The Phoenix area is, by far, the worst city to live in. It is very dusty and dirty, overcrowded and terribly hot. The average I.Q. of the residents has to be under 100. Contractors never keep appointments; and when they do, half the time they do a poor job. Houses are not selling because many were bought by investors that don't even live here, and many residents cannot afford the subprime loans they took out. City services such as police and fire are seriously lacking. The average wait time in an emergency room is well over 6 hours because all the illegal aliens use it as their primary physician. Traffic is a nightmare. Drivers here are crazy and serious accidents occur routinely. 40% or more of the all drivers here are uninsured. People in Scottsdale (Snottsdale) are full of themselves. Culture? Fuhgettaboutit. Not happening here. There is very little public transportation. Many of the people working

HOT! HOT! HOT! - 9/18/2007
If you like outdoor activity you won't be able to go outside during the summer....from may-september. Yep, our summer is five months long and an unbearable 110+ degrees daily-dry heat like your in an oven (or hell). The night time is barely tolerable @ 90-100 degrees. The rest of the year the weather is beautiful, especially if you like to wear shorts to your Christmas parties! Have fun...I'm outta

Phoenix IQ - 9/9/2007
I just wanted to respond to the wonderful comments earlier. That gentleman needs to hang out with a better crowd. There are a lot of intelligent people in Phoenix and a ton of white-collar jobs: high-tech, medicine, bio-science, engineering, I could go on forever. I moved here from a wonderful city with a lousy climate. Phoenix is not perfect, but it does have a lot to

Crime Seems To Be Higher In Phoenix - 8/25/2007
I moved from Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Phoenix, AZ about 5 years ago and it seems like the crime is higher here in Phoenix. In the past 5 years I've had 2 cars broken in to and 5 bicycles stolen. I lived in Ft. Lauderdale for about 6 years and never had a problem. Cars you have to keep in your garage at night to eliminate this and for the bikes we actually cabled them to the wall/ceiling in the garage to eliminate the crime of opportunity if our garage door was
