Way too hot here - 9/25/2006
There are at least 4 months out of the year here that are just miserable. There's no breeze to ease the humidity and the high temps. At least in Miami you get some breezes. Plus, it's already in the low 90's by 10:00am and stays that way until 7:30pm, making Daylight Savings Time pointless b/c no one wants to be outside. You spend your summer indoors in the A/C, so what's the

Nice areas in O-Town - 9/15/2006
In responce to the request for nice areas in the Orlando metro area, that person should check out; Lake Mary, Maitland, Bear Lake, Oviedo, Winter Park, Downtown Orlando(College Park, Colonial Town, Thorton Park, Central Downtown), Dr. Phillips, Windermere, and if you like living in a suburb with rolling hills and valleys (with great views more like the West Texas Hill Country than Florida) check out the "west hills" area of Orlando around the town of Clermont. Orlando is a great place to live with lots to do and you will love it here! Don't listen to all the people who will not find happiness anywhere they live that seem to need to write in and tell everyone how unhappy that are yet again in another city! I guess it's time for them to move on yet again in their search. If you can't find contentment, a job and things to do here, you have issues that go way beyond the city you are living in. Is the glass half full or half empty? Orlando's glass is way full compaired to other cities

What areas should I look into relocating too???? - 9/13/2006
I've read the post but I tend to believe that I would still be happier in the sunshine state than in MA. I live in Lynn a city north of boston which actually has a higher crime index than Orlando. The housing prices here are out of control. I live in the cheapest area north of boston and to buy a decent starter house you need $400,000. I pay $1,100 for rent for a small 4 room over 30yr old apt. Most houses and apts here are old, ugly, loaded with lead paint and just plain falling apart at the seams. I don't have a yard or any grass for that matter. Plus the damn snow!!! Oh and part of the reason is that we are disney dorks and coaster freaks!!! Nothing to do here most of the year unless you have $200-$300 for a night in Boston or do skiing which sucks!!! HELP. I need to move. Can pay around $1,000 a

City is ok - 9/5/2006
As a resident of "The City Beautiful" I feel the need to voice my opinion. Orlando is not a bad place to live weather wise. The sunshine here for a majority of the year is quite nice. The warm temperatures in the "winter" time are also a nice plus to anyone from the north like me.
However, with this comes a lot of negatives. Orlando is quite the urban sprawl effect. There is not a real sense of community anywhere in Orlando. You have "planned developments" like Baldwin Park, Avalon Park, and Celebration with their nauseating, cookie cutter image of what a neighborhood should look like. They might be nice to some people, but this type of zero lot living does not appeal to all, especially at that price tag.
Traffic is the major thorn in any Central Floridians side. The roads here are completely inadequate for the amount of people living here. The main "arteries" of the city are a joke. Any given point in the day or sometimes night, I-4 is a varitable parking

Orlando - 8/24/2006
Mark, get over it. You are just upset because I pointed out that there are areas in Pine Hills that have a lower crime rate than your so called paradise city Dr Phillips. You sure know a lot about Pine Hills for someone who could never be paid to go there. You live 15 minutes (local road with lights) from Pine Hills! You and people from there go to the same restaurants, same supermarkets, malls etc. You need to live 1 hour from there since you hate it so much. All crime in Pine Hills go reported. Are you trying to find an excuse why the crime rate in 32818 is lower than yours? Where are all the news stations located? Next to Pine Hills. Mercy Drive, Orlo Vista, John Young, Ivey Lane etc are not a part of Pine Hills but anything happens in these areas Pine Hills name is called. If I had listened to what people had to say, I would never even drive through there. Someone invited me there and I saw how good people lived. Their houses overlooked lakes, they have pools, nice lawns etc. I

Black-and-white, huh? - 8/13/2006
It's sad to see so many black-and-white posts on this message board. Orlando is no "paradise", but it isn't "hell" either. As I stated in a previous post, it's all relative. It depends on where you are coming from. Wealthy folks from the Northeast love it here because everything is so cheap when compared to where they are coming from. Unfortunately, once here they also enjoy bashing their adoptive home as "backwards" and lacking in diversity (an assertion that is culturally insensitive in and of itself). The reality is that Orlando is just as diverse (and likely more) than most cities in the United States. Again: we get the point - you love (insert the name of a maegalopolis like New York or Boston). Orlando will never be that city. Get over it. Accept it. You are welcome here, but don't expect the city to change now that YOU are here. As a teacher in the Orlando area, I understand that some fellow northern transplants are upset with the quality of education here. Let's

Pine Hills... - 8/13/2006
Crime in Pine Hills (32818) is a way of life, T, and you know it. Most of the daily crime that goes on there in that community goes un-reported because even most of the crime victims are most likely wanted for something themselves. The crimes those same people commit do get reported, and police actually respond(unlike in Pine Hills where they have given up years ago), in the nice areas of Orlando like Dr. Phillips and Windermere.
I guess the police are doing a good job

T, Orlando is growing up, fast.... - 8/10/2006
..and with any city that has seen the fast growth that cities like Orlando has seen over the past five years will start to see the big city type crime asso with a big, (and getting bigger every day), city. Five years ago I agree that Orlando did not have these problems. Five years ago the traffic was not nearly as bad. Metro Orlando has now grown to roughly the same size as cities like; Las Vegas, Cinncinnati, Baltimore, Providence RI., and San Diego. For those people who have lived here all their lives, Orlando must not even look like the same city to them, however, all cities of this size and bigger will start to get some big city crime. Orlando is not as bad as you are saying, T. Unless you move to a smaller, (and staying small for some reason), city, ..you will have to deal with growing pains where ever you move. Let us know where you are moving to, and good
