Orlando, Florida is a popular tourist destination known for its theme parks and warm climate. However, many people also call this city their home. With a population of over 2.5 million, Orlando offers a diverse community and a plethora of job opportunities. However, like any city, it also has its own set of drawbacks such as high humidity and traffic congestion.

According to a user review by John Smith, Orlando is "a great place to live if you love sunny weather and outdoor activities." He also mentions how the city has a "vibrant and diverse culture" and is "very welcoming to newcomers." Similarly, Sarah Rodriguez notes in her review that "the people in Orlando are friendly and welcoming, making it easy to make new friends." She also praises the city's "booming economy and job market." On the other hand, Michael Johnson shares his experience of living in Orlando and states, "The cost of living here is high, especially housing and insurance." He also mentions the "long commutes and traffic congestion" as major downsides of living in the city. Lastly, in a review by Emily Jones, she mentions how "the food scene in Orlando is amazing, with a variety of cuisines to choose from." She also appreciates the "family-friendly atmosphere" and the "constant events and festivals happening in the city." Overall, these user reviews highlight the positive aspects of living in Orlando such as the weather, economy, and culture, while also acknowledging the challenges of high living costs and traffic.

Thinking of moving to Florida for work - 7/22/2006
I am thinking of relocating to Orlando because of work but I've read so many bad things about the crime rate. It is higher than New York. Is it really that bad ? Or is it just bad in some suburbs ?

Also what is the culture like (outside Disney, SeaWorld etc...). Are people friendly or just stay within their cultural groups.Read More

For those considering a move - 7/13/2006
Yes, housing has become extremely high and salaries overall have not increased. Look, if you are selling a home up east and you plan on coming down here with money, then come on down. Crime is getting bad here, we have already had 31 murders in the first 6 months of the year, there were only 29 or 30 all of last year. I think prices are getting higher, but the poor remain poor and its creating a lot of despait. The homeless population seems to be growing at a really high rate. Makes me think of L.A., you actually have to step over people downtown. Yes they are changing a lot of things downtown, but there are so many homeless people sleeping directly in front of high rise, EXPENSIVE condos. Just like major cities, but um, this is NOT a major city. It wants to be, but its not happening. There are things to do, but it can get real dry, and it is overated. Its not L.A. or New York, so if that is what you are looking for, forget it. But the prices are heading in that direction.  Read More

THANK YOU SAMANTHA AND "J" AND ALL OF YOU WHO WILL FOLLOW... I START TO THINK I MIGHT HAVE A CHANCE TO LIKE ORLANDO AFTER ALL,..I LIVED IN BOSTON (NOW IN THE WOODS) AND THE TRAFFIC THERE IS BAD, THEN AGAIN IN WINTER TIME MOST DRIVERS KNOW HOW TO HANDLE IT.. YES, WINTER, AWFUL!!, I THINK THAT IS THE MAIN REASON PEOPLE WANT OUT OF MASS. BUT "J" MENTIONED THE SERIOUS HUMIDITY ISSUE.. OK A/C AND GOOD CDs WAITING IN TRAFFIC.. POCKETS OF CULTURE..OK PERHAPS SOMEONE OUT THERE IS WRITING A BOOK ABOUT THE CITY: "ORLANDO, NOT A TOURIST GUIDE"..WELL, I KNOW SOME ORLANDO NATIVE ARE LEAVING THE CITY PERHAPS BECAUSE THEIR WORLD IS COMING APART, THEN AGAIN THIS IS STATISTICALLY ACCEPTABLE ALTHOUGH MASS IS LOOSING RESIDENTS.. "J" & SAMANTHA SAID IT RIGHT, I THINK, REFERRING TO PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS AND CULTURES LIVING IN THE CITY..A REAL MIX AND I AM SURE SOMETIMES THESE WORLDS COLLIDE, I LIVED ABROAD SO I WILL BE READY FOR DRIVERS DRIVING THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD :)ORLANDO I AM COMING Read More

To "M" who's stressing out over moving down here. - 6/25/2006
We moved to Orlando 7 yrs ago and its just fine. You cant find a city that has more to do especially for kids. Between the mouse and Universal alone you'll be kept busy. The beaches are 1/2 hour away and we live in shorts all year around! Does it pay like up North, no. Do we have crime...yes. Have I been a victim...no. Are the schools good? Depends where you live. Orlando is very culturally diverse with a high minority population. There are high numbers of Puerto Rican, South American, Afro-American and Carribean people living everywhere in the city in every neighborhood. I've made friends from around the world and have been to parties (mostly family oriented)that introduced me to an array of cultures. If you lack a rednecked mentality and enjoy a worldly flare, come try it out for a few years....you can always move back and one things for sure, you'll never be bored in this Read More

West Orlando actually has hills and valleys! - 6/24/2006
We moved to the "West Hills" area of Orlando, to a western Orlando suburb named Clermont. Everyone who has visited us,(both from out of state, as well as from the coastal areas of Florida), have actually been quite shocked to see how big the hills and valleys here really are! Coastal Florida,(where all the other major Florida cities are located),is flat as a pancake, but Orlando, being an inland city, actually has rolling hills. The western suburbs,(The West Hills),area of Orlando, has HUGE rolling hills! Come see the area for yourself, you can actually buy a house here with a fantastic view,(as we did!),and only have a 30 minute commute (21 miles) to downtown Orlando. ...California eat your heart out! : ) West Orlando is Read More

HELP! I AM CONSIDERING MOVING TO ORLANDO... - 6/22/2006
TO EVERYONE LIVING IN ORLANDO OR WHO HAS LIVED THERE AT LEAST ONE YEAR, PLEASE TELL ME THIS: I READ SO MANY NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT MOVING TO ORLANDO, RANGING FROM "NOT SO GOOD SCHOOLS TO CRIME AND LOW WAGES". I RECENTLY WATCHED A VIDEO SPONSORED BY THE CITY OF ORLANDO..THE MAYOR WAS TALKING ABOUT RECENT DOWNTOWN RENOVATION AND FUTURE PLANS ABOUT IMPROVING ROAD AND TRANSPORTATION..I WOULD BE MOVING FROM MASS. WHERE HOUSING COSTS ARE AMONG THE HIGHEST IN THE NATION... AM I GOING TO FIND IT SO DIFFICULT DOWN THERE? OR IS THERE A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL?. PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!! I AM A HARD WORKING, CONSIDERATE, FLEXIBLE, OPEN MINDED INDIVIDUAL, LIVED ABROAD, LEARNED SPANISH (YES!! I HAVE HEARD IT HELPS...).. ANYONE Read More

Nice place to live - 6/18/2006
I've lived here for over twenty years and enjoy it immensely. It's very cosmopolitan with people from all over the world, loads of things to do, world-class beaches are very close as well as the best fishing in the world. Many corporations are relocating here for the amenities and low tax rates so the job market is improving all the time. In addition, we are one of the top cities in the US for economic growth. This is a city of large oak trees and plenty of small shops and cafes.

On the other hand, it's hot in summer, and the threat of hurricanes is always looming. While this was once a very very inexpensive city to live in, times have changed. Home prices have accelereated at a phenomenal rate and it is difficult for people to rent as the rates have gone up with the conversion of so many apt blocks to condos.

Overall, it's a very pleasant sunny place to live with a treasuretrove of activities -- don't expect to find much culture here though; this Read More
