Orlando, Florida is a popular tourist destination known for its theme parks and warm climate. However, many people also call this city their home. With a population of over 2.5 million, Orlando offers a diverse community and a plethora of job opportunities. However, like any city, it also has its own set of drawbacks such as high humidity and traffic congestion.

He also mentions how the city has a "vibrant and diverse culture" and is "very welcoming to newcomers." Similarly, Sarah Rodriguez notes in her review that "the people in Orlando are friendly and welcoming, making it easy to make new friends." She also praises the city's "booming economy and job market." On the other hand, Michael Johnson shares his experience of living in Orlando and states, "The cost of living here is high, especially housing and insurance." He also mentions the "long commutes and traffic congestion" as major downsides of living in the city. Lastly, in a review by Emily Jones, she mentions how "the food scene in Orlando is amazing, with a variety of cuisines to choose from." She also appreciates the "family-friendly atmosphere" and the "constant events and festivals happening in the city." Overall, these user reviews highlight the positive aspects of living in Orlando such as the weather, economy, and culture, while also acknowledging the challenges of high living costs and traffic.

Orlando Pros and Cons - 5/6/2006
Orlando has many positive attributes: Lots of Sun, warm climate, mild winters, theme parks, good live concert venues (House of Blues, Hard Rock Live), very friendly people, small-town feel, many nice neighborhoods old and new, culturally diverse, low crime rate, proximity to beaches, many state parks and major cities (Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville) and cruise lines, many good colleges (Rollins, UCF, Full Sail, Valencia) and lots of greenery all year. It is the #1 tourist destination in the world, and the city is improving and becoming more beautiful all the time.

Some Negatives: The cost of housing has really increased in the past year, and more high wage jobs are needed.

Move here to take a good job, attend a specific college or to be close to theme parks. Otherwise, you may be disappointed.

My wife and I have lived in the North, South and in Europe and have traveled extensively. This is a very nice place to live. But keep in mind, it is not a Read More

Orlando pros and cons - 5/5/2006
Pros: theme parks, proximity to beaches, sunshine, warm climate, lots of greenery, no state tax, friendly people, pretty safe, good colleges (Rollins, UCF, Full Sail, Valencia) many nice neighborhoods old and new, culturally diverse.

Cons: low wages, crowded roads, city planning needs help.

Reasons to move here:to attend a specific college, have a good job offer, you're a Disney fanatic. Otherwise you can do better.

Reasons to move away: Orlando is not a big city, so if you're looking for all of the amenities and opportunities of a New York, Chicago, or a Miami you need to relocate.

IN SEARCH OF UTOPIA?... - 4/28/2006

FORGET ABOUT IT!!

Learn from all of us...it does not exist!!
Orlando is WAY OVER RATED... the creation of powerful marketing.
We are NYC transplants but see no reason to continue living in this State after being here a number of years already. We only wished we had a place to go back to in NYC but like all the others we were seeking a place to make home - Orlando is NOT that place! We are currently planning a big move anywhere outside of this State. There seems to be a consensus from not only the posters here on this board but everyone we've met down here that this IS NOT a family friendly town nor is it for singles, or married folks, elderly or anyone else for that matter! There is virtually no sense of community in spite of how attractive many communities look. As for 'Southern hospitality?' let's just say that must be a marketer's creation too because many a folk have been lying injured on the road (from a hit and run!) and people just drive past Read More

Don't move to Orlando - 4/23/2006
As a life-long resident of Orlando, now in my late 40's, I wouldn't recommend living here unless you are in an upper income bracket & can afford the high cost of living here.

As many others have mentioned, the cost of housing has gone crazy. We only bought our current house 5 years ago, and with the way prices have sky-rocketed, we couldn't begin to afford to buy this same house today. Salaries for the average skilled worker haven't begun to keep pace w/ the rising cost of living.

Growing up here 30-40 years ago, it was a great place to live. But now it's over-crowded, over-developed, and getting worse all the time. Traffic is horrendous, we dread driving anywhere these days. We are in the process of selling our home & getting out of here. It's sad, as I've lived here almost my entire life, but it's no longer the nice place to live that it was in the past. I won't ever come back down here again.

Luis makes great points about the dream of Florida - 4/11/2006
So many people are leaving the NE to go to Florida. Half of NY wants to move to sunny and fun Florida! I don't see why (my brother lives near Orlando) and I would NEVER move there. My nephew and niece both went to a BAD school district and had to take a bus for a long time to get there. The schools are terrible. My father said he never saw my nephew (never a scholar, but still) with a book in his hands or homework. People with children SHOULD not move to Orlando or other 'bad' parts of Florida unless you can afford private schools. Thanks for your post, Luis. It's very Read More

Orlando, a stupid city with stupid characters! - 4/10/2006
Ever heard of dont judge a book by its cover?? Well this is what is all about. Orlando is one of the most visited places on earth my many people of different races, cultures, and ages. People come visit and see a clean street (in the tourist erea), sun, and 4 things to do. That is Dysney,Sea world, universal. Now what else can you do??? After you move here and go to the parks over and over again... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Now the Facts!...Orlando's school system totally Sucks!(excuse my language) Your kids go to school depending where you live. Regardless of how bad school is. MOre than 50% of the public Schools in the city are D's And F's!! Incredible. Crime!!!huh!! Lets just say that you can compare this to Baghdad, Iraq! Car jacking, Home invasions, School beatings, (and on bus stops) Kids getting run over by cars on the way to and from school due to the lack of sidewalk!!!(YES SIDE WALKS, WHAT KIND OF CITY HAS NO SIDE WALKS!! WHERE DO TAX PAYER MONEY GOES TO???!? if you look at this Read More

Orlando is ridiculous! - 4/4/2006
First off, like everyone else is saying the cost of living is out of control!
It basically seems that the gov't here and the developers are doing their best to raise everything so high, that the people with limited incomes [mostly minorities] are being forced out!
They are making the black areas smaller and smaller, and do nothing but cater to tourists!
I would not recommend to anyone to move to Orlando, it is becoming a play ground for the rich and infamous.
Regular people need not Read More
