Yeah, but it's a DRY heat - 6/26/2009
Just relocated to Las Vegas from Chicago and can say that low humidity makes a huge difference in how hot it feels outside. I will say that I do notice the intensity of the sunlight more than the actual heat. Still, I think that there is a misperception that in Las Vegas (as in Chicago) people are just sitting outside in the extreme weather. This is simply not Read More

Dont move to Las Vegas - 6/14/2009
After living in Las Vegas for nine years, I feel I am somewhat of an expert of the various activities one can divulge in, leading to much more serious consequences. Gambling, drugs, prostitution and crime seem to be the most popular 'go to's here in the oh so appropriately name "Sin city". I was divorce a year after moving here with a teenager and a elementary school aged child to raise alone. My ex husband, unable to control himself, indulged in each and every one of his vices. The worst of all the gambling. We lost everything, he was unable to control himself or his addictive behaviors. Bottom line, my kids and I are fine, he is not. If you are even considering a move here, consider moving with someone who doesnt have an addictive Read More

Education in Las Vegas - 6/9/2009
Las Vegas is a very interesting city. The only thing I am very disappointed about is the education system for our children. It seems to get worse each year. There are deep cuts in the K-12 grades as well as the College and University budgets. With the economy being so bad it is understandable that cuts have to be made in spending, but budget cuts should not start with education. Educational cuts should be the last to be considered because we need a strong educational system to secure the future of our Read More

A mixed bag. - 5/21/2009
It isn't THAT awful, but it woefully lacks the infrustructure of a city like Phoenix.

It's like Phoenix, but Phoenix is greener, far better managed, a better sense of "community".

There's no reason to live here if you can live in Phoenix, though. Which is why I'm wondering why the hell I'M still Read More

As of this date, housing in Las Vegas has fallen in value 50% - people are upside down in home equity. Foreclosure and vacancy rates are very high. The job market is bleak and unemployement one of the highest in the nation. Cost of living has not adjusted for the downturn in US economy. The city is suffering from a decrease in visitors who spend money to boost the economy. Nevada is facing severe budget shortfall. There are a multitude of economic problems facing this city.
