What BestPlaces Users Say about Albuquerque

Albuquerque is the largest city in New Mexico and is known for its beautiful desert landscape, rich Native American and Hispanic culture, and vibrant arts scene. It has a population of over 560,000 people and is home to many popular tourist attractions, such as the Sandia Peak Tramway and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.

Albuquerque is a popular city for people looking to relocate, but what do actual residents have to say about living there? According to many user reviews on BestPlaces.net, it seems that opinions are mixed. Overall, many residents appreciate the diverse culture, warm climate, and outdoor activities available in Albuquerque. However, there are also some concerns expressed about crime rates, traffic, and job opportunities.

One user, named Sarah, says, "I've lived in Albuquerque my whole life and I love it. The weather is great and there is always something new to explore. The food is amazing and the people are friendly." This sentiment is echoed by another user named Maria, who states, "I moved to Albuquerque for college and ended up staying. I love the city's blend of cultures and the fact that there's always something to do, whether it's hiking, checking out a new restaurant, or attending a cultural event." These reviews highlight the positive aspects of living in Albuquerque, such as the weather, diverse culture, and abundance of activities.

However, not all reviews are as glowing. One user, Michael, expresses concerns about the city's crime rates, saying, "I moved to Albuquerque for work and I'm not a fan. The crime rates are high and I don't feel safe walking around at night. I also struggle to find job opportunities in my field." Another user, named David, also touches on the issue of crime, stating, "There are some great things about Albuquerque, but the crime rates are concerning. I wouldn't recommend living here to families with young children." These reviews bring up valid points about safety and job opportunities in the city, which may be important factors for those considering a move to Albuquerque.

In summary, user reviews about living in Albuquerque are diverse, with some praising the city's culture and outdoor activities, while others express concerns about crime rates and job opportunities. Ultimately, it is important for individuals to consider their own priorities and conduct thorough research before deciding if Albuquerque is the right place for them to call home.

Dont move here !!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 8/23/2010
Never in my life have I lived in such a whacked city !!! Total trash people.
Not one has any idea. No manners, no class, no creativity, no nothing. This city is really a black hole for living. There are more people wearing pajamas
in Wal Mart than pajamas Wal Mart is selling. Oh yea and the tatoos !!! Is there any person under 30 who doesnt have multiple tatoos?? And city asthetics !!! Never have I seen worse architecture- ANYWHER. It all boils down to having a bit of taste and class. ALBUQUERQUE HAS NONE _ ZERO_ NADA !!
Just a nasty frigging place. Cops are the worst- incompetent and gun happy. I have tried to come up with one redeeming feature. Maybe the weather but thas all. I am so out of this trash people hole Read More

To Chris - 7/25/2010
Chris, funny you should mention Denver as I was just transferred here and haven't updated my profile. You will love Denver. The business climate is much more robust here. It has all that you love about Abq and doesn't have the things that bug about NM, like wind and blowing sand, none of that here. Sports bar scene is great and PRO SPORTS!!! I love the Lobos but it is refreshing to have the sports stations actually talking pros versus college. Plus hitting an afternoon Rockies game is awesome. The drive back to Abq is not bad, only 6 hours. I've even found a couple of good Green Chile places. I say go for it, you won't regret the Read More

3 years later - 7/4/2010
I have lived in the East Mountains of Albuquerque for 3 years now. Pros: climate is good, plenty of sunshine, little snow (high desert type of climate), beautiful landscapes, plenty to do outdoors, and other fun stuff. Housing is still reasonable. Albuquerque still has a small town feel to it, and does not have the issues many metro areas have (yet). Cons: government is corrupt yet they keep electing people who have committed fraud and/or who are unethical; crime is rampant, DWI ratio is one of the highest in the country and gangs are everywhere; offenders get away with a slap on the wrist, the justice system here is a joke; it is not what you know, it is who you know if you want a job; people are clickish here and do not let outsiders in, if you are not a native or local, forget about fitting in. (I have been called names because of my national origin). Jobs pay next to nothing, and a significant portion of the population would much rather be on welfare than work. Like a previous Read More

Yes, They're Right!! Please don't move to New Mexi - 5/27/2010
I'm a native of New Mexico. After reading what everyone has to say, all I can say is I'm glad you all moved away:) Talk about Negativity. We don't need anymore people here. It's ruining our quality of life. Everyone moves here to get away from whatever they didn't like and then tries to change our state. We don't need you. Read More

Wow... I dont know what to think... - 3/24/2010
I came here to get an idea of what one might expect living here and am blown away at the amount of negativity that people have about this place. Quite frankly it depresses my thoughts of this city and area. I live in the mountains of Colorado and while in the summer it is simply the most beautiful place on earth I'm over the snow and harshness of cold winters up here and I'm not much of a city guy.

After reading all of this it seems to me that making a "good" living there would be next to impossible. I am a skilled welder and my gal a career (26+ years) Exec Assistant wouldn't make squat there... Is that really true? Is the crime really that bad? Is the gang activity really as bad as it is portrayed here? Who likes to have to walk through that to get a burger or an ice cream? I pull up on my Harley and am going to have to have troubles for simply being there?

Please, locals and positive transplants speak up here. I've been all over this site (and the net) Read More

Twilight Zone - 12/9/2009
I totally agree with "Quality of Life - Zero"!!!! I have been here for almost three years and have never been in a more unfriendly place. The weather is great compared to many places and I love the desert. The pay is a disgrace but the locals don't know any better it seems. Start a business here, you get tax breaks and cheap labot, a good deal. If you are retired from NY or Cal. then you are set, otherwise you are digging a whole for yourself. Green Chilli? - I agree. Though I have had some positive experiences here, for the most part I can't wait to scrape enough money up to get out. I think I stepped throught the Twilight Zone and landed here (like 50 years previous to the rest of the Read More

I know why they call it the land of enchantment. - 11/1/2009
If you need a dry climate for health related conditions this is the place! It isn't as hot and overly dry as Arizona and it isn't as polluted. You can spend most of the year outdoors. It is beautiful here and there are a lot of state parks. If you love to ski then there is only a short drive to nice skiing. The people are very friendly and life isn't at the pace of let say New Read More

There's plenty to do in ABQ - 10/10/2009
I have lived in Albuquerque for a year now. I was a transplant from Portland, Oregon. The sun seems to shine nearly every day here. In a year I can count on one hand the number of full-day overcast days. Storms here are dramatic and magical; usually welcome. The local food here is excellent, but it is difficult ot find decent Asian food. What they call "authentic" here is a New Mexico version of Thai and Viet Namese.

The roads here are the best I've seen; built over the flattest part of the state, well maintained, great visibility. Given there is virtually no inclement weather here, it's hard for me to understand why there are so many horrific traffic accidents. Every state says they have the worst drivers, but after living in Indiana, California, Alaska and Oregon, I'd say New Mexico definitely has THE worst drivers. They claim they are tough on drunk drivers here, but you keep hearing stories of people getting over 10 DUIs. How is that even possible?

And All Else - 8/9/2009
I moved here to escape from the Upper Midwest winters in January 2008. Although I won't be moving back to the same city, I am seriously looking into relocation in about six months to the Midwest, again, about six hours from where I moved. I'll deal with the weather.

As for Albuquerque and New Mexico, it can be a nice place if you are retired or don't have to work, or don't have much ambition. I don't fit in. I like to work. I like to show up for work on time. I like to not complain about my job duties. That being said, Albuquerque and the rest of the state is the Land of Manana (Land of Tomorrow). There is no emphasis on improving one's self here.

Since January 2008, I have seen people come and go; people who moved here from other places. Some left within a year or even six months. I was willing to try and hand in here. But, the work ethic is atrocious, the laziness factor is very high (the higher the more lazy). People here leave their garbage every where - Read More
