Crime - 10/19/2013
The Garland PD has evolved into a very professional force. When I moved here in the mid 80s, it was ' cowboy cops'. As a volunteer I have worked with the PD and seen a dramatic positive change in the last 10 years. The officers use good discretion, our crime rate is low, diversity training has been emphasized, our chief does not tolerate bad behavior and these rumors of Asian drug groups only reflect TX and Garland's population struggle with TX racism and some economic jealously. Our crime rate is low and we rank thefts from open garages as burglaries - something most cities do not Read More

We moved to Garland in 1985 coming from 10 years in other countries, NY,CT,HI,OR. I saw potential and must commend out police , fire water and sanitation depts. The people here are on the whole very nice. I do see that the mentality of the good old boys has held the city back .We have a good mall and some other shopping, good access to other cities and moderate public transportation through DART. I would con test some of the reviews as Garland has a low crime rate. I was struck by the fact that racism in TX and Garland has a long way to Read More

Garland, TX is a vital point for drug distribution in the USA - networks of individuals and families are recruited to store and later distribute drugs in large frequency and small quantities via postal services and highway system to other states- somewhat as the North Viets did in SE Asia war with the arms shipments into SV. Asian crimals are laundering drug proceeds purchasing commercial real estate, cash businesses, residential real estate in this area in enormous ammounts. Some Hispanic cartels have tried but not as succefull. Its become the economy of the locals- Asian immigration and population exceed Blacks today and is not recorded accordingly by Read More

Much to do...now - 1/8/2010
I've lived in Garland since 1979, grew up, graduated high school, and moved around on my own. Growing up, though Garland was an extremely large and populous suburb, there was not much to do when compared to neighboring suburbs. Garland was where people lived and/or worked, but not where we played. It wasn't until the relatively recent completion of the George H.W. Bush Turnpike that Garland (at least North Garland) finally became accessible to everyone else, and vice versa. Now there's shopping centers, restaurants, and theaters where there used to be nothing but residential areas and open Read More

Garland is nice - 1/25/2008
They are really updating the North end and the very South end of Garland by the lake. They have added new stores, a mall, and plenty of eating places in the last year. There are also plans of extending the George Bush Tollway all the way from North Garland, thorugh Rowlett, and over to the South end of Garland, tying it into I30. That will really make commuting a lot easier. For years though, Garland was happy to just stay "as is" so it is nice to see some changes finally Read More
