Houston or Dallas? - 3/13/2007
I am looking at relocating to Texas later this year and my options are Houston or Dallas? I have been to both cities briefly but I am unfamilar with them as a whole. Which may be be better based on crime, economy, cleanliness, singles/nightlife, and other quality of life factors. Thanks for any

If you've ever lived on the East or West coasts an - 3/13/2007
I'm a well educated, good looking hetero male and I've lived in Washington state for the better half of my life, went to college in Boston, lived in California, North Carolina, Virginia, Florida and Europe before moving to Houston, TX required by my job. Honestly, everywhere I've moved to I've always held the view that an open mind, good sense of humor, genuine sincerity and willingness to integrate would allow me to make new acquiantances, learn about its culture and people and enjoy my time while living here. That hasnt happend in the past 3 years... as this aint it.
First, I developed severe allergies... they say it's the texas hay fever and pollen. I say it has something to do with all the cancerous chemical pollutants from the refineries around the city.
Forget about outdoor activities as the city centre is a deadzone after hours and on weekends - even McDonalds closes their sign after 9pm. The traffic and roads/hwys are not designed for pedestrains or

Great Place to Live - 3/2/2007
My husband and I choose to relocate here from Virginia and it was the best decision we could have made. I have found that of the people that don't like Houston most have been here all there lives and have not experienced the quality of life in other cities. We lived in the Washington, D.C. metro area and let me tell you people are not only rude there on the roads but they are rude in stores, restaurants, etc. I am not bashing D.C., as every city has it's ups and downs. However, I have found that many of the negatives I heard about this area are not as bad as people said. For example, the traffic/commute time is just as terrible in D.C. and other major metropolitian cities, the humidity is also not great in D.C., although I have to admit a little worse here, the people in Houston are friendly especially as compared to other large metro areas. I will say that I think that where you choose to live and what you can afford will always affect your experience in any city. Cost of

I have been to the dark side......Houston ROCKS!!! - 2/5/2007
I am writing to you from sunny California. That's right, I relocated from Houston to Cali. Let me tell you somethin brother, I would give all this freakin sunshine up in a heartbeat to come home!
Houston is not cheap, it is dirt cheap! But it is also a value, because of the museums, parks, schools, churches, community centers, restaurants, shops, visual arts, theatres and cultural diversity.
And let me tell you about the traffic, yeah it sucks, but there is FLOW. Over here in Cali, if you are stuck, you're stuck for up to an hour. Rush hour is all day! And yes it gets hot and humid in Houston, but over here in Cali, PEOPLE DIED THIS SUMMER from heat exhaustion. Not to mention the drought-like conditions. They wouldn't let me BBQ in my apartment patio because of fire hazards. Oh yeah, that's right, our food, BBQ, TEX-MEX, chinese, thai, it is sooo much better in Houston!!! AND CHEAPER!!! Houses, I was looking to buy a 3/2/2 in Houston, and

Metro rail - 2/2/2007
I live in the texas medical center area of Houston. Yes the houses are a bit on the expensive side, but one can get decent looking apartments at reasonable prices. commuting within the TMC area is better with the new Metro rail as parking inthe TMC area and downtown could be a nightmare. having said that, majority of residents still drive their vehicles and rather pay for parking all because of the convenience of having your own means of

Response To Michael's Post - 2/2/2007
Seems to me Michael, maybe you might be the problem. If you have lived here for over Forty God Forsaken Years, why are you still here? Maybe because of the great adn diverse economy, weather, low housing costs, sunny days (albeit the humidity can make one crazy, which probably explains the 'crazy rude drivers' you keep railing about), restaurants, activities, arts, and let's not forget that it is close to the Gulf Coast and Texas Hill country. Seems to me Michael that you'd rather put up with us "rude..punk kid" Houstonians for Forty years because you get paid well and have an awesome standard of living as compared to any other part of the U.S.. Do us all a favor a move if its a living hell for you... What's that? You can't because your life would suck if you went

Don't come here - 1/31/2007
I've lived here for over 40 years and I can't wait to get away from here. The people are some of the rudest, meanest, nastiest troglodytes I've ever encountered and it seems to get worse with every passing day. There is no such thing as mass transit unless your idea of mass transit is just a bus. The inmates are overrunning the asylum. Everyone here claims to be so pius and religious but the minute you get out on the freeway your being flipped off by some redneck or punk kid. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place like the plague that it
