Not bad - 5/10/2006
Houston is an ok place to live. Lots of activities for families with young kids. Close to other interesting cities (Galveston, Austin, San Antonio). Housing costs are reasonable. If you can manage the hot humid summers, you'll be Read More

Won't be too critical - 5/9/2006
I won't be too critical but this place sucks. It is not family oriented at all, and to get any recreational you must travel, which is horrific here. The city is full crooks who are all power and money hungry. I have never been to a city where the tow trucks sit around and literally wait for the cop to trap you and then race nearlly killing themselves and others to take your vehicle to the pound, seems to me this should be entrapment. Kids get tickets (yah I said tickets - like traffic tickets) in school for ridiculous reasons (just another way to get more money). I am in the medical office field and I have lived here 11 months and still have not found a job. The hospitality here is non existance, if you can understand what they are saying in the first place. I call it Little Mexico, it is impossible to go anywhere and have a understandable conversation, and forget a thank you have a nice day gesture, not here. The whole city is impolite and rude. Sure they helped with the Katrina Read More

Pros and cons - 5/6/2006
Houston pros:
Housing is less expensive than in other major cities. The cultural resources are excellent. The city has professional sports teams, lots of good restaurants (although there are few if any great ones), and good shopping, as one expects in a large city. The winters are mild, and there is lots of sunshine compared to the northeast where I lived previously.

Houston cons:
Generally speaking, the region is ugly in appearance; it is flat, has too many billboards, too few trees, etc. The heat and humidity from May or June through September or October are brutal. Read More

Nurses inquiry response - 5/2/2006
In regards to the last posting, I am not a nurse but know Houston extremely well since I was in advertising for years there. My 2 cents worth: if I were a nurse, Houston is one of the better places to be with all the hospitals of high calibre standing there. There are so many nationalities there and no zoning, so everybody lives together. There is no segregation there as in Chicago. There used to be a Jamaican restaurant or two there, and probably still is. Do a computer search with Citysearch or other site. It is cheap to live there, very cheap compared to almost anyplace else you could move to--that has wonderful medical staffing, that is. You are a nurse, so either Mayo's at Rochester, MN. or other high quality area should be your target. Hope this Read More

SCARED TO MOVE TO HOUSTON - 4/21/2006
I LIVE IN JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA AND WAS SO EXCITED ABOUT MAKING A MOVE TO HOUSTON. NOW THAT I READ THESE COMMENTS, IM SCARED. EVERYONE WHO VISITS HOUSTON FROM HERE SAY THEY LIKE IT. I HATE BUGS, BUT WE DO HAVE SOME BUGS IN FLORIDA. IAM NOT SURE IF IT IS ON THE LEVEL OF HOUSTON. I AM A NURSE SO I THOUGHT JOB WISE IT WOULD BE GOOD. HOUSING SEEMS AFFORDABLE BUT I NOT USE TO LIVING IN A DUMP AND IF PROPERTY TAXES ARE THAT HIGH THEN IT IS NO USE. I AM HALF JAMAICAN SO I HOPE THEY HAVE JAMAICAN RESTAURANTS. TRAFFIC IM NOT USE TO IT. ONLY ABOUT 30 MINUTES TOP IN JACKSONVILLE. NOW I THINK I MIGHT CHANGE MY MIND AND MOVE TO DALLAS. IS THERE A DIFFERENCE. IM USE TO HOT WEATHER HERE SO THAT IS NOT A PROBLEM. HELP NEED ANSWERS. ARE THERE NICE PARTS TO HOUSTON. I LIKE TO SHOP SO THATS A PLUS. BUT INEED TO RAISE MY CHILD AND FAMILY IN A NICE Read More

Big City Strange Climate - 4/19/2006
Houston is growing more and more every day. And im sure most major citys grow also, but Houston will quite strange though.
