Southwest Houston - 4/17/2006
Houston is the fourth largest city in the nation. While other cities around the country have suffered from high inflaction and property value, Houston has remain very stable. The housing market in the Southwest of Houston ranges from the $120,000 to the 180,000. The neighborhoods are mutli-racial and multi-dominational. The particular area I live in is called Sharpstown which is rapidly becoming China town with a large Hispanic population just South of us, a large India/Pakistani population, African, South and Central American to the West of us. The colleges here are excellent including Rice University and our medical center is world Read More

Houston sucks - 4/9/2006
I hate it here. It is a big ugly city with no character. The people do seem nice but not sincere. There are tons of mosquitoes and cockroaches which are disgusting.

And the weather is the worst - hot and humid. Fruit and vegetables go bad in one day if left outside the refridgerator. And it does flood everytime it rains - like there is not a good drainage system.

It is also a very segregated city which is very sad. The level of customer service is the lowest I have ever seen. People just expect less here.

Also the crime rate is very high. I would definitely tell others who are considering a move to Houston to look elsewhere.

Houston is a CRAPHOLE!!!!!!! - 4/4/2006
The inner city sucks! No real public transportation!(Trains, Subways) For how big the city is.... The city is too big to have dumb of city planners. Is as big as Chicago, but no commuter rails, or subways, they have a so called light rail, but it goes down the street and stops at lights just like cars... You will be better off driving! $3.00 to park $3.00 to ride in traffic, in a train? $3.00 - $5.00 to park your car in Downtown. Suburbs are cool, but you better have a job there too... Traffic, Heat, Crime, Bad cops, mosquitos, flooding(every time it rains), Humidity, Smog, The Houston Texans suck, and the Rockets have Van Dummy! Enough said... I have stayed in Houston 23 years and nothings changed... I am leaving to go where the grass is Read More

Still one of my favorite cities. - 3/26/2006
I moved to Houston in 1996 when I was 20 and only lived there for 5 years but loved every minute of it. I moved there from Colorado Springs, CO and actually enjoyed the change in scenery. Since I had never been to Texas before moving to Houston, I was expecting to see tumble weeds and dirt but was pleasantly suprised to see all the trees! I enjoyed the north-western part of Houston in the Woodlands or the Champion Forest area...I felt very safe and I loved all the trees! I did not have any problems finding jobs or dates. I loved the Texas guys and how polite but fun, they were. I've never as much fun on dates as I did in Houston. I was never bored; there are great restaurants, museums, shopping, sporting events and the beach isn't that far away. Of course no city is perfect, but I'm not going to waste my energy concentrating on what's not perfect unlike some of the other comments I've read. Michael, you said Houston didn't have a theme park...what is Six Flags Astro World?? John, if Read More

There's a lot to like and a lot not to like. - 3/20/2006
I came to Houston on a job transfer from California in 2003. Which is the first thing to like -- the VERY low cost of living relative to California. We literally got twice the house for half the price we got for our San Jose home.

People are so much friendlier here. That may come as a surprise to native and long-time Houstonians, but believe me -- there IS a big difference between Texas and California there. Strangers say "hi" and sound sincere. They can smile at each other when they meet and make eye contact, and not get too creeped out that someone must have ulterior motives. I like that. We LOVE Texas barbeque. And that Texas is a unique state of mind. Not many states have their own unique state of mind; Texas does. There's something uniquely, well, "Texan" about being in Texas.

And there's no kind of cuisine you could crave and not find in Houston, and get some of the best of it you'll find anywhere. Houston seems to be the epicenter for the Read More

We're Sorry We Moved to Houston, Texas - 3/17/2006
My sister and I moved to Houston about 10 months ago and what a mistake. When we were doing our "research" on Houston before we moved here, new home prices were increadibly cheap and crime was not bad at all. In fact, I was shocked that crime was not too bad, especially for a big city. Since we've been here, home prices have gone through the roof and new home builders are tacking on an additional $5,000 (they say it is for the increase in prices due to the short supply of building materials because of Katrina). Apartment rents are ridiculously high too, have gone up, and apartments are hard to find now. Everything went up after Katrina (housing and crime!). Crime is horrible. The city, generally, is very hot and dirty, roads and neighborhoods are not well kept, property taxes are too high (a lot of the homes we've seen are foreclosures), it is very boring (nothing to do), traffic is a nightmare, and the mosquitos are like flying vampires. They are everywhere. We have been Read More
