Over Worked Police - 1/28/2010
It seems like crime is becoming so bad in Houston that police officers assume everyone is a criminal and treat innocent citizens like we are all carrying weapons. Recently I came close to getting into an accident with a police car after I couldn't see around the corner too well and two squad cars followed me home with their lights and sirens on. I understand they're doing a job, but this is overkill. I've had my car stolen 3 times since living in Houston and each time it took over 2 hours before the police showed up to take a report. I have come to the conclusion that this city is way too big and the crime is getting out of control. I am planning on moving to a smaller city once I can find a Read More

Living in Houston, TX - 10/13/2009
Houston is an amazing amalgamation of ethinicity. THe climate is the toughist thing to adjust to. When it is hot it is hot! If climate is not a concern then you will love it here. Education in the Houston area needs work - 10/4/2009
We don't do a good enough job educating our young here. Granted we have much more than our share of minority kids and their parents who don't speak english(I've seen that argument in print many times) but this is reality and we just hired a very expensive head educator from another state to lead us toward better education. If we don't make a dent in our lag in educating the next generation the crime will get worse because they won't be able to support themselve; the economy will get worse because no one will be able to pay the high property tax rates or the sales tax. It all hinges on Read More

Houston is very underrated - 9/13/2009
Houston must be the most underrated large city in the country. It's amazing the negative exaggerations and even lies I hear people saying about it. I just don't get it. Many of them live within the state of Texas! Thank God I didn't listen, because I've had a blast since moving to Houston several years ago. One of the top 4-6 ranked restaurant scenes in the country; a wonder Museum District; a huge Theater District; one of a handful of US cities with permanent symphony, opera, theater and ballet; pro-sports; good job market; diversity and an international atmosphere; nice weather 8 months out of the year; and all available for a reasonable cost of living. Are there things Houston could improve on? Sure! But wow, it sure is a lot better than people give it credit for. Anyone who is on the fence about Houston needs to take a second look (and maybe the city needs to hire a good PR firm, because the rest of the country and even the state sure do seem Read More
