The weather is great: for ducks, and year-round dining al fresco, and cycling year-round, and funding power companies.

I 'm with Joe!!! - 8/3/2007
Joe, you got it right, I'd like to reiterate what he said. Houston is a balance between metropolitan and small town. Between Southern hospitality and international flare. You can come from any other place in the world and the find your niche in Houston.

Yes, the weather is humid and hot, and undpredictable. Traffic is not a bowl of cherries. But I have been to other cities and I know what makes a city thrive: it's people. If you have nothing but overworked, underpaid people with no hopes and no dreams you get a hell-hole for a city. But Houston is growing everday, new buildings, new businesses everywhere, and JOBS. Decent paying jobs. And while Texas is conservative, Houston is a tolerant city, look at Montrose, The Heights, West U, Meyerland...

I am in California right now, and the whole feud between Cali and Texas is not even debatable. California claims to have very liberal perspectives, but has almost no compassion for its people. I still Read More

Ar you kidding me? There is one pharmacy in the city of Boston that is open 24 hrs. Gas stations close at 7pm. 24 hr gyms and grocery stores are unheard of.

And fat people in Houston?...you must have picked the wrong side of town. And what is it with ill-mannered hispanics? You know something, spanish culture is an integral component of Texas current and past history. Non-hispanic Texans know this and don't feel like you do. Shame on you for making such a statement. Just leave and take your white tr hetero self out of Houston and Read More

Houston - 7/30/2007
After reading all the postings, I feel compelled to reply. I've lived in Houston and Boston and have travelled all over the country. Houston is a fantastic, funk, wealthy, and progressive city. The people are DIVERSE, NICE, KIND, and Curteous. The people of Houston combine the great qualities of midwestern and southern people. The city is green, open, bright and colorful. And very importantly, people have money in their pockets and are happy. Houston is very much like Los Angeles in that regard. Houston ofcourse does not have the mountains and ocean as LA does. If you are looking for something like that, try Houston or Los angeles. If you are looking for a Wusteria lane in a homogeneous close minded niche, leave and go elsewhere and stop complaining.

I'm shocked that there are New Englanders making negative comments about Houston and its people. Let me put it this way: The people in New England, in general, are rough, rude, and sloppy. People are walking around with Read More

Relocating to Houston from Chicago - 7/18/2007
I'm 39 years old and was born and raised in Chicago, spent a few years in Tampa Florida, and came back.Well after 11 years, I'm leaving again! Chicago is great, but there is definitely an attraction to a city with a lower cost of living and a warmer climate. I am very excited about the move--only a couple of weeks away! If anyone has any advice about neighborhoods to live in, shop in, stroll in, etc., let me Read More

Houston: An outsiders perspective - 7/16/2007
As for someone who grew up in LA, and spent the last 15 years in Texas(4 in Houston, 11 in Dallas), I believe I can give an honest and open perspective on Houston. I'll first start off with the good stuff.

Good: First off, the native Houstonian people are friendly and nice here. I find that people from Houston are really down to earth vs. people from Dallas, who come off to be high society. The economy here is obviously centered around Energy, Oil and Gas, but there are other jobs in IT and other areas that you can find that makes the city more diverse. The housing here is affordable, and the city has reached out far beyond the suburbs to give you a number of choices. As far as culture, I was surprised to know that Houston has a very decent Arts District and Symphony, which most people coming from the West or East coast may not expect. The Medical Center district hosts some of the best hospitals in the country, so health care here and finding a good doctor should Read More

Cost of Living Very Low! - 7/11/2007
The cost of living here is amazing. Even compared to small midwestern towns (where I am from), the cost of living here is very reasonable. Housing costs, gas prices, etc. are all very reasonable. Schools are also excellent. I would recommend Houston for city-lovers. The outdoorsy type, however, may find Houston to be less than Read More

Relocating to Houston - 7/3/2007

Houston vs Dallas, - 6/19/2007
Just want to see the record strait on the Real City in Texas. HOUSTON.
We are the biggest and most vital city in this state. We have naturally resources that make us essential for this state to survive(Port of Houston, Energh Capital of the World, Largest Medical Center in the World).
Houston does not brag like Dallas however the only problem is Dallas brag about nothing. They are an empty fasaud. Without Houston Texas would be nothing. Dallas has nothing in the City that cannot be moved very easily. You cannot move the Port to Dallas. Also I am sick of Dallasites saying that they are a White Collar City and Houston is Blue Collar City. The truth is that Houston is a Blue and White Collar city because we have the most Corporate Fortune 500 Corporate office in the US beside New York. We are the most international city by far. And how can Dallas be the most Conservative big city and Cosmopolitan? You can't even find a liquor in that City. The good news is that Houston is Read More
