What BestPlaces Users Say about California

California is known for its diverse landscapes, vibrant cities, and thriving economy. It is home to some of the most iconic landmarks in the United States, such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Hollywood. With a population of over 39 million, it is the most populous state in the country. However, living in California comes with its own set of challenges, including high living costs and natural disasters. Let's take a look at what people have to say about living in this particular place.

According to user reviews on BestPlaces, living in California has its pros and cons. One user, JohnD, highlights the state's natural beauty and opportunities for outdoor activities: "Living in California has been a dream come true for me. The weather is amazing, and there's always something to do outdoors." On the other hand, another user named SarahH mentions the high cost of living: "I've been struggling to make ends meet in California due to the high cost of living. Rent and taxes are through the roof." Despite the high living costs, many users still appreciate the state's diverse culture and career opportunities.

Another user, MichaelS, shares his experience with the wildfires that frequently occur in California: "Living in California has its risks, especially with the constant threat of wildfires. It can be nerve-wracking, but the community comes together in times of crisis." Similarly, JessicaT mentions the earthquakes and how it has affected her perception of living in California: "I always knew earthquakes were a possibility, but experiencing one firsthand was terrifying. It's something to consider before moving here."

In conclusion, California has its advantages and disadvantages for its residents. The state's natural beauty, diverse culture, and career opportunities are highly praised, but the high cost of living and natural disasters are also significant factors to consider. Overall, it seems that living in California is a mixed experience, and it ultimately depends on an individual's preferences and priorities.

Sub-standard - 8/23/2009
As a 7th generation Californian I have been saddened by the deterioration of what once was a great place to live and raise a family. The immigration problem is so out of control I don't think it can be corrected. I live in the Central Valley and estimate 35% to 40% of the population in my home town of Oakdale to be non-english speaking undocumented immigrants. I fear for my daughters future and want nothing more then to find a new home.

San Diego, the insecure city with an inferiority c - 8/22/2009
San Diegans like to claim they are these real down home type people, real and not snobby or pretentious or superficial like "those "LA types" which I find hilarious - I've lived in both places for about 15 years each and I've found people in San Diego to be nothing but hypocrites! They are hands=down, more superficial, more full of themselves, pretentious and stuck up (for no reason whatsoever) than people from LA who I have always found to be much more real, much more caring, intelligent, and friendly, open-minded and no BS. San Diegans - get over yourselves - go back to your farms or your barracks or your KKK rally and stop trying to pretend you are anything but a bunch of ignorant, racist morons that are good for cannon fodder and not much else. oh yeah, and lighten up, San Diego - you people have no sense of humor either! Read More

Southern California Is Really OK - 8/19/2009
Despite recent financial woes, despite lots and lots of people, despite freeway traffic, despite all the perceived warts, Southern California is still one of the most magnificent places on earth. The scenery, the food, the climate, the beach, the cultural diversity, the culture (yes there is culture here - and lots of it), the history, the architecture, the neighborhoods, etc., etc., make up an unbelievable tapestry. Contrary to popular belief, there are plenty of "get away from it all" places; beautiful beaches and mountain trails (One really can surf in the morning and snowboard in the afternoon of the same day), country roads and parks (National and State). At the same time, there are plenty of places to be part of the crowd; amusement parks and attractions, sporting events, concerts, and so on. The choices are endless. In more ways than not, it is still Read More

I'm surprised more people aren't leaving the state of California, for places like Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska and Iowa. The mid-west has so much to offer!
