What BestPlaces Users Say about California
California is known for its diverse landscapes, vibrant cities, and thriving economy. It is home to some of the most iconic landmarks in the United States, such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Hollywood. With a population of over 39 million, it is the most populous state in the country. However, living in California comes with its own set of challenges, including high living costs and natural disasters. Let's take a look at what people have to say about living in this particular place.
According to user reviews on BestPlaces, living in California has its pros and cons. One user, JohnD, highlights the state's natural beauty and opportunities for outdoor activities: "Living in California has been a dream come true for me. The weather is amazing, and there's always something to do outdoors." On the other hand, another user named SarahH mentions the high cost of living: "I've been struggling to make ends meet in California due to the high cost of living. Rent and taxes are through the roof." Despite the high living costs, many users still appreciate the state's diverse culture and career opportunities.
Another user, MichaelS, shares his experience with the wildfires that frequently occur in California: "Living in California has its risks, especially with the constant threat of wildfires. It can be nerve-wracking, but the community comes together in times of crisis." Similarly, JessicaT mentions the earthquakes and how it has affected her perception of living in California: "I always knew earthquakes were a possibility, but experiencing one firsthand was terrifying. It's something to consider before moving here."
In conclusion, California has its advantages and disadvantages for its residents. The state's natural beauty, diverse culture, and career opportunities are highly praised, but the high cost of living and natural disasters are also significant factors to consider. Overall, it seems that living in California is a mixed experience, and it ultimately depends on an individual's preferences and priorities.

Eventually, only wealthy people will be able to li - 4/25/2006
I was born and raised in California. I had always loved the fact that I live in such a unique state. But, since a devastating downsizing that has left me earning 50% less than my former salary, my view of California has changed. The housing costs in California is unreal. There's no way I can afford to purchase a home in California. A home that costs $200,000 anywhere else in the county costs $650,000 in California. The housing problem is so bad, now tenants such as myself are being forced out due to condo conversions.
As soon as I can afford to move myself and my family out of California, we're gone. In the meantime, due to a condo conversion at the apartment complex I've lived in for 17 years, we just may be homeless

California Now - 4/21/2006
I am a 46 year old, 3rd generation, native of California. My husband is a 6th generation native. There is no category you have listed that hasn't changed overwhelmingly in the last 10 to 20 years. California is no longer the friendly Golden State of recent decades. No one who lives here anymore has been here for more than 5 to 10 years. Most are not even from the US. Welfare is high, crime in high and the cost of living, not even including the price for gasoline here, is beyond what people living in other states would believe. Customer service at any place from a local McDonald's to WalMart is amazingly poor, but is accepted by these relatively new Californians as Okay. Education is struggling to keep up with the explosion of growth in the population as well as to improve it's standards. It is loosing it's battle. Life is fast-paced, expensive and crowded. When I visit other states I am now ashamed to admit I'm from

Lived here most of my life, but it is getting expensive. But where else, besides Texas can you drive for eight hours and still be in the same state? (Well, maybe New York or Boston, during traffic jams...) Scenery is varied, lots of National parks, but lately, *too much rain*.
Nonetheless, I can't quite imagine living anywhere
