Friendly People - 7/25/2008
I live in one of the few States that folks will actually greet strangers on the street like they are old friends. I have been to other States and even lived in some out West and when I spoke to someone who I didn't know, out there, they looked at me like I was crazy and ran the other way. I was born and raised in North Carolina, and was taught as a child to always give the benefit of the doubt, and to be nice to stangers. After all thats just the way to make friends. This is the friendliest state I have ever seen. Just come here and get broke down or have car trouble...lol, once I had guys almost fighting over who was going to assist Read More

home sweet home - 5/6/2008
walkertown and walnut-cove,n.c.is our home.we love our home and all of our immediate family as well.as does my father who lives in w-salem.we love the community and are seeing the impact that the economy is doing to us all, just one after another.for an example;one of our favorites; a grill that we love dearly has been saying for a few years now how much the prices has become an issue and they don't have a clue what to do next! But yet and as always they continue to feed us at a great price and with great food.other locals, such as the stores, the ones that have lived and loved here forever are trying to keep up! we are losing each other, little by little and we deserve better,we have worked very hard to be a community and we are one.we need one another and so all throughout the voting we all do,please remember us! >>>>>> big and small.

Don't Move to Raleigh!!!!! - 1/14/2008
Please don't believe the media hype....Raleigh sucks!! I moved there from the Washington, DC area (big mistake) and it was the worst decision of my life. Not only is it hard to find a good job that pays well, but it's a boring place full of ignorant North Carolina natives. I lived there for a little over a year and have recently moved back to civilization. The job market is horrible, unless you work in the pharmaceutical or customer service fields. Oh yeah, or unless you went to college only to work in a restaurant or retail store. The two companies that I worked for both had good ol' boy/girl cliques, the people have never been exposed to different cultures, races or religions which adds to their extreme ignorance and a young woman in her thirties actually had the audacity to ask me what Sephora is...I mean, come on, climb out of the cave people.

I met a couple of people while I was there who also believed the lies about how great Raleigh is and they feel the same way as Read More

Employment and Cost of Living - 11/14/2007
I relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina from Miami, Florida. I relocated based on the seemingly 36 percent lower cost of living than Miami, Florida. I find North Carolina to be a beautiful, safe place for married people raising children. However, as a college educated, professional, African American single woman who use to have an active social life, that has become null and void. North Carolina has ranked high over the past few years for employment, however what many writers do not share are the industries with employment growth. If you are not working in the field of science or technology finding employment that pays anything is definitely like looking for a needle in a haystack. I have been in this state for 17 months and regret each and everyday. I have bounced around from one low paying temporary job to another. I often ask myself how I left a 15 year career to end up living so poorly.

Further, what most folks don't tell you about the state of North Carolina is Read More
