Looking for Advise - Moving to Arizona

My husband & I are planning to move from Baltimore to Arizona next year. I lived in San Diego's North County for 6 years & have always loved the west. Need something new, warm (hot), with things to do outside.Arizona is such a big state when you've only visited a couple towns. Any input would be great... Looking for typical desert climate (a little snow is OK), something near a lake or creek, affordable housing- but with space (I don't want a cookie cutter house on the back stoop of my neighbor), no lengthy commutes to work & good schools.Anything like this out there? Baltimore sucks unless you are a city dwellin' yuppie. Can't take the smog,lack of nature & rude,narrow-minded, drama-seeking people crowding my space...
