Because they haven't seen anything outside of the metro area. Most have been here 4-5 years and have not gotten farther than Lake Pleasant. There is so much more to Arizona than Phoenix. In fact Phoenix IS NOT a good "poster child" for Arizona tourism. It might be the least attractive thing about Arizona. But Phoenix is still new to this whole "being a legit destination" thing. It is a city that has little, or no history. Give it a chance, it has ALOT of potential.
