I've lived in Austin for 15 years and the only negative things I can say about this town is that it's hot and the traffic sucks. Other than that it's the best place I've been, and I work all over the United States as a Hydrographic Engineer. I hate to bust your bubble, but there's alot for a late 30's housewife to do here. You should listen to your husband. There is alot for your 2 boys to enjoy and alot for you to enjoy as well. Zilker park is great. Barton Springs pool is 100% spring water and 68 degrees year round, Deep Eddy pool is spring fed also but quite a bit warmer if Barton is too cold. Our children's museum rocks.(I have 2 kids myself) The spring concerts at Auditorium shores are great for all ages, young and old. There are alot of women like you they all have a great time. Yes we're hot, but having worked in Florida all last summer for 19 days at a time, I can say that the quality of life in Austin compensates for the heat which is almost, but not quite as bad as living in White Trash Heaven (Florida). Other places may have cheaper rents/home values, but the HEB grocery store have UNBEATABLE prices. I have yet to find cheaper groceries ANYWHERE else in the U.S. even in podunk redneck inbred no cost of livng towns throughout Mississippi and Lousy-Anna where people are so poor that they only get shoes in the winter. (Yes these types of place still exist in America)
Listen to your husband sweetie... get the hell out of Florida, move to Austin, but don't bring a bunch of people with you... we like a few new people but there's alot of people running here.
