The business of Houston is making money

I've lived in Houston for 11 years now and I'm trying hard to leave ASAP!! I've visited all the major cities in the U.S. and many throughout the world and Houston is the coldest, most impersonal and unfriendly city I've ever had the displeasure of being associated with. Over the years I've wondered why the people are so selfish, self-centered individuals with such a dog-eat-dog mentality and the answer was provided for me by a friend who had lived here a lot longer than I. He said the problem with Houston is that the vast majority of people who live here are not from here and the only reason they've come here is because they are connected in some way with the petrochemical industry and they are here to make MONEY!! He put it very succinctly when he said, "The business of Houston is making money." So if you want to live in a place where you can make money and only be concerned with yourself then Houston is your kind of place.
