We're Sorry We Moved to Houston, Texas

My sister and I moved to Houston about 10 months ago and what a mistake. When we were doing our "research" on Houston before we moved here, new home prices were increadibly cheap and crime was not bad at all. In fact, I was shocked that crime was not too bad, especially for a big city. Since we've been here, home prices have gone through the roof and new home builders are tacking on an additional $5,000 (they say it is for the increase in prices due to the short supply of building materials because of Katrina). Apartment rents are ridiculously high too, have gone up, and apartments are hard to find now. Everything went up after Katrina (housing and crime!). Crime is horrible. The city, generally, is very hot and dirty, roads and neighborhoods are not well kept, property taxes are too high (a lot of the homes we've seen are foreclosures), it is very boring (nothing to do), traffic is a nightmare, and the mosquitos are like flying vampires. They are everywhere. We have been bitten horribly by them. Mass transit is bad too. There aren't many buses that go out to the new housing communities, so if you want to buy a new home, then you will more than likely have to drive and spend hours on the road. It took my sister 4 months to find a job, and she has never had a problem finding a job in the past. We were getting worried (financially). As of now, my sister and I are leaving. We are very sorry that we moved here and spent our hard-earned money to get here. We thought we would be able to afford homes, get a job easily, and live in a "nicer" big city, but we don't think that way now.
