If you can't stand the heat...

Just as the saying goes, you must really be able to stand the heat AND the humidity to like living here. I have lived in the south for 90 percent of my life and I don't think I've ever had such a hard time dealing with the heat as I have had here. Maybe I am just sick of it, I don't know, but it's disgusting. Also, when they give the daily weather reports on TV, most days the air quality is not good at all. There are so many factories and plants, especially in the south and east areas of Houston and that's mainly what affects the air quality. But you can definitely feel it when you are spending time outside. My allergies are worse since moving here.
The good things about this area is that there is plenty to do in the way of museums, shopping and the arts. The Houston ballet is one of the best in the world and a must see! There is a museum for everything and don't forget about NASA. Houston also has an incredible medical district that is utilized by people all over the world. Just keep in mind when you are going downtown or across town, this is the fourth largest city in the nation and the traffic reflects that. The drivers here are pretty selfish. I have heard of more hit and runs here than anywhere I've been and it feels like the truckers would just as soon run you over. And that goes for the pick up trucks as well. Fortunately, I've been the victim of only one hit and run, but my husband was hit on purpose when he was on his motorcycle, so that makes two for him! I don't feel like this area is motorcycle friendly.
