Houston is 2nd in Texas to Austin

My blog assignment for class:
Anyone who has been to Austin knows it is the best city in Texas. I have lived in Austin, and loved the time I spent living in San Francisco, but my hometown of Houston definitely deserves more credit than it receives. In order to truly enjoy Houston you have to know where to go. It's not a scenic San Francisco or a Charleston, but its a huge cultural city with everything from filthy rich oil money to some of the best artists in the world. Houston has more culture then any other city in Texas, with the 2nd biggest Theatre District in the country (to New York), an expansive Museum District, some of the best shopping around, and of course, an overload of awesome restaurants, pubs, lounges, wine dives, and anything else you could think of. My favorite part of the city is it's beautiful parks. Yes, it rains, but not near as much as it shines. It gets hot in the summer but has beautiful winters. While some people would prefer the concrete slabs of repetitive strip centers and uncultured emptiness and sprawling suburbs of Dallas, I find that completely boring. In Houston, inner city (or In the Loop) is the place to be, once you travel to the outskirts, it is all of the unappealing aspects that the big cities of the nation have. Past that, suburbs such as Sugarland have massive houses, neatly trimmed lawns and shopping, bars, and highrises in town square. On the other hand, I would rather drive through River Oaks. My recommendation is to know the areas to go and stay "in the loop", because that's where the excitement is. (but don't waste your time in the middle of downtown, all the business people stay underground in the tunnels). Houston has no zoning, and no repetitiveness. You're luxury hotel could be right next to a strip club, but I wouldn't have it any other way. It's the perfect mix of funky and upscale, and Houston is good to it's people.
