Petoskey is Our Kind of Town

The people in Petoskey are generally pleasant, friendly, and courteous .... even the teenagers in our experience. Petoskey is certainly a physically attractive area in the summer, but of course, that is when the summer people arrive, and things get much busier and more crowded. But that gives Petoskey the vibrant feeling of a much larger town than it is. North Central Michigan College offers learning opportunities for all ages at a reasonable cost. The Bayview Community brings in nationally recognized speakers and offers many other cultural opportunities to everyone. Nearby Bay Harbor now has a performing arts center. Petoskey has a great public library and just across the street is The Crooked Tree Arts Center. The downtown shopping and restaurants and brew pubs are great. However, there is at least one out-of-town developer who is always trying to bring in a downtown development with high buildings that would change the small downtown feeling of Petoskey .... and also cause parking issues among other ills that come with a large development that is primarily designed to make the developer wealthy. Housing availability is low so real estate prices are high. And winters are only for those who love snow and don't mind removing a lot of it from their yards (or paying for someone else to do it). Summers are outstanding, but a busy vacation land. We are originally from the U.P. and have been in Petoskey for 10 years, and have no plans to move anywhere else. It is the perfect town for us!!
