Review of Reading, Pennsylvania

Worst City ever
Star Rating - 12/29/2006
I grew up in Reading and left after high school. Reading WAS a nice city in the 70's but gradually grew to the worst city ever. Caused by corrupt politics, poor city management and misguided priorities. The surrounding areas are somewhat better, but the square headed Pa Dutch mentality still prevails. Don't move there or invest in that city!!
A few good things still exist, The Pagoda, Stokesay Castle, can't think of anything else..Take the 222 bypass recently completed and avoid the city. The bypass around Reading was stalled by the narrow minded citizens and politico's for many years while nearby Allentown and Lancaster progresses into the 20/21st century. Reading is #1 in Penna for crime/murder per 100,000.

I'm not what your point is about highways around Reading (Reading has a very poor highway network compared to a lot of other places in Pennsylvania and in other states). Are you saying that having these highways ruined the city? Because if you look at a map of Pennsylvania you will see that pretty much every larger city has a network of highways around it. Most cities in the state have a much better highway network than Reading, the highways we have here are pretty pathetic. I'm not sure how Allentown and Lancaster are better than Reading now because they have highways that allow motorists to pass by their cities! I definitely agree with you on Allentown and Lancaster being better than Reading....but then again, that's not hard to beat!
