The pros: if you want your kids to grow up in an ethnically diverse community in which education is highly valued, Sugar Land is tops. The schools are among the best in Texas. Ethnic groups seem to congregate in their own subdivisions, so the mix isn't always easy to tell just walking around the block. People aren't the typical "Texas friendly." I am reminded very much of New England as far as the people being welcoming to newcomers. You have to "prove" yourself in order to be accepted.
As a bedroom community to Houston, it has much better air and water than the big city. Traffic is a problem and getting worse. No way to compare it to the big cities back east..., the Houston area just has a lot of traffic but it isn't really bad.
There is a lot of economic "segregation." The very rich stick to themselves and do not mix with the (shrinking) middle class. The financially challenged of the economic spectrum are not welcomed in most circles.
The climate is a big problem for many. Summers are unbearable to many. Winters are not cold. Humidity is a year round issue.
If you are looking for something to do, look elsewhere. Live theater exists in Houston, but not in abundance. In Sugar Land, it is virtually non-existent.
If I have to live here for the rest of my life, it isn't bad. But it is not my first choice.
