Housing prices here are some of the lowest in the country. St. Louis is a very old city (for the US). Remember the French fur traders came down the Mississippi when the states were still colonies of England. Anyway, the "city" reaches all the way to the older suburbs.
St. Louis is conservative. Housing prices never zoomed up as they did on the coasts so the recession we are now in (2009) did not affect prices as much as elsewhere.
