Denver- not a secret, a disappointment

Just a quick footnote: we live in the real Denver, in a somewhat well to do area. There is not really a great downtown scene, just a lot of people who are not from here. and the "cookie cutter" suburbs are their because people are moving out of the city to live in safer places, and who can blame them? Denver grew to fast. It has a brown haze over the city that make the accessible mountains disappear during the brightest days. On any holiday you will fight traffic in the mountains to get anywhere. Go to Col. Springs, it is actually in the mountains, not 45 minutes away. Other cities are much nicer to live in, offer the same exact chain stores, less frustrating, a lot of people are snooty, yet can't figure out why, oh, and the crime is completely ridiculous...and where is the water? Good points: it is not humid. good airport, trends from the nineties have just caught on here so your clothes and sunglasses aren't outdated yet...looking for a big city with some personality? Austin, TX, Portland, Or, Orlando, etc..
