To get a better understanding of what it's like to live in Savannah, let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net.
According to John, who has lived in Savannah for 5 years, "Savannah is a beautiful city with a lot of character and charm. The historic district is a must-see, and there are plenty of great restaurants and shops to explore. However, the cost of living can be high, and the traffic can get pretty hectic during tourist season."
Another resident, Sarah, shares her thoughts on the city: "Living in Savannah feels like being part of a tight-knit community. The people here are friendly, and there are always events and festivals happening. Plus, the beach is just a short drive away, which is perfect for weekend getaways."

Living in Savannah - 2/21/2009
I recently moved to Savannah from the Atlanta area, and absolutely love it! It is the most beautiful city I've lived in, with historic squares, beautiful parks, and wonderful old homes. The weather is mild and usually very nice. Tybee Island and beautiful beaches are also a short distance away. I would highly recommend the area to anyone

Savannah is a lovely place to live on the Atlantic Ocean with pleasant breeze in the summer and winters warmed by the Gulf Stream. The area is indented and does not get many

for the most part, the economy is horrible!!!!! - 7/1/2008
This is the south, as a matter of fact, it's the deep-south. There are (in my humble opinion) very few educated ppl in this town and I think that is some of the cause of the lopsided economy. Savannah thrives on tourism and service, which is fine if you're a college student like myself, who may not mind waitressing etc. However, when you have ppl over the age of 45 who are still doing that, then there might be a little problem there. I realize ppl work whatever/however they can, but SAV seems to have more of this than their fair share.
Savannah is such a cute city. River Street is awesome, not super-fabulous, but its cool if you're into bar hopping, club hopping, live entertainment, restaurants, "cruises"...especially after-dark. You'd want to be leaving around sundown if you're bringing kids down there. Please don't be one of those idiot adults who think it's cool to have your kids down there after dark.
The pay is pretty bad, be lucky if you find a job paying 9 or

Not the best of towns - 6/25/2008
Savannah in it's self seems like a safe city to visit, which it is, but it's also a town you can't be careless in. I don't know how many tourists that have come to Savannah and either left their car doors unlocked or an open window cracked and then everything that can be carried away is gone. The town has a very diligent police force, but they can only do so much in a city with a small town attitude.

Pro's and Cons NYC vs NYC - 4/27/2008
I've read both sides of this argument now. You've lived there 15 years and settled in nice and snug. I have been to Savannah, loved it down by River Street, toured the jewels, Boneventure Cemetary and drank up all its charm and as much history as I could while there for the short stay. I even know why all the cobblestone! One of my dreams is to be in Savannah for the St Patty's day celebration! I, too, am from NYC. I still have to work to survive, but my question is, will I survive? I understand crime is pretty awful. I'm a single woman, close to retirement. What are my chances of making a go of it

Been here to long - 10/9/2007
So I transfered down here from the Chicago area to go to SCAD and I love it at first -- I first week I was here there was a drive by right in front of one of my buildings, and the guy on the coner got shot in the head. It was at night, and it made my really nervous to cross the street to go to my car later that night. But I come from a town that has really bad crime so I was like no big deal, but the crime is so worse here, way worse. I have been here now for 7 years and I decided to stay because my husband got a really good job, and now I am stick here. I hate the weather, and whoever said that it doesn't get over 120+ heat index, is crazy and I would like to know what weather station they are watching. I hate the BUGS, no matter what you do they are always there,oh and snakes and rats suck too. I think that there is plenty to keep people busy as long as you are into the arts, but there no forest preserves no where to go hiking which my husband and I really enjoy. There is a beach but

Southern charm? - 6/13/2007
Savannah has a beautiful downtown with tons of things to do.The city is filled with plenty of parks, trees draped in moss and old 1800 homes. It's an amazing place to visit but I do not encourage outsiders moving in.They love you if your visiting but hate you if you move there. The city has a horrible murder rate and a mayor that will do nothing about it.Savannah is a town that does not want change and is very racially divided. The public school system is horrible and the college(armstrong atlantic state university)is good. A town that could be wonderful if the right people ran it. The Best thin is Paula's restaurant is a

Climate and Crime in Savannah Ga. - 6/12/2007
Most the year the climate here is quite wonderful as are most of the people. But the months of July & August are Africa-HOT!!! And I know because I am African. Savannah prides itself as being a traditional southern town and it is, minus the red necks and bigots of days gone by. Unfortunately there is a crime problem here that surprised me when I relocated here from NYC area. However, the city mayor and new police commissioner seem determine to stem the tide. There are plans to open 11 new police stations, in addition to the walking patrolmen they have already added, and mounted police in areas where we never saw a police presence before.
All in all, I love it here. If I want to enjoy some big city attraction and culture...Atlanta with all its hustle bustle is north of here by 5 hours...and Jacksonville Florida is south by 2.5 hours.
Good luck
