Run for your life!!! - 8/28/2021
I'm 33 years old, and I've lived in this town for 25 of them.
Not by choice.
The majority of people here, and I'm not exaggerating, are on drugs. It's sad. And I'm terrified. I have a 3 year old. I have been trying so hard to get away, and move somewhere else. But the truth is, I can't. The Boyd County system is set up to make you fail, so they can control you through your reliance on them.
I have lived in a homeless shelter for nearly 4 years, because the Housing and Urban Development landlords, are changing their minds and reclaiming their properties.
If I sound paranoid, I assure you, I am not.
I have been declared mentally sound with an IQ of 158.
I was never allowed to go to school, and thus, never receive my diploma. Because of that, I'm forced to work long hours for $7.25 and hour!!!
When I can actually get my son into daycare. They make that difficult too. I can't even get my license. We have to walk for miles on sidewalk in varying Read More

The people... - 8/26/2019
The people of Ashland are amazing and its growing and getting better everyday. Every weekend there is things to get involved with and excellent local restaurants, as well as a top shelf hotel downtown. Ashland like many cities has its issues but the people here are working on them deligently. I cant explain how beautiful it is and unless you have lived in other cities, you will never understand how lucky you are to live here. Read More

New to Ashland - 8/13/2019
I'm new to Ashland and it's a step up from flood ravaged Louisiana! I love the weather we have here.
After our first year living in Ashland and having retired from the US Navy I was looking for a home high and dry and I found it and at the right price.
I have great neighbors with close relatives living in town.
The small town atmosphere is refreshing. Plenty of natural resources for an outdoorsman.
Sure there's room for improvement, higher speed limits on Rt 23, wider roads, lower taxes and improved business environment.
Note to the leaders of our Town. As the population has dropped steadily over the past 20 years you should recognize that local government is a big part of what is holding Ashland back from being a trend setting City. Suggestions on how to improve our City should be seen as our residents seeking change and improvement. At some point in the near future I will be posting ideas shared with me by Read More

Need more police - 8/5/2019
I have a house in Ashland but.... I don't live there. There are nice people but there are also so many drug addicts that would lie to you, pretend, steal from you and then lie again. They would break into your house to steal WIRES !!!!! - just to get their $200 to fulfill their addiction and leaving you with $10000 in damages. I really think there should be a death penalty for those who bring narcotics to KY. Business is impossible to do - I had to deal with three businesses and they were the worst in my life. People don't know what giving your word means and some businessmen don't have balls to stick to what they promised. Read More

economic blight - 7/1/2014
I've lived in Ashland for 5 yrs now. It is lovely in its natural surroundings but if you need a job and aren't an engineer or truck driver--run far away. It is a dead town with many dilapidated, rotting empty run down homes and businesses. There are NO jobs and yes AK steel did close and the power plant is set to close down. THe property taxes are high--they tax on anything they can. There is nothing to do and i have never seen a place so dead. It is sad the people are nice and it is gorgeous but there is way more unemployment than your page is showing most people arent recorded i guess...just do an average online job look you will see--or get a paper you will see. Retirees may do well here but few else. I love our home I have stunning views and see wildlife all day everyday..its quiet, peaceful, private and yet just minutes to town..but ive been without a job for too long..so we are looking to move. Breaks my heart our property is awesome and i cant find anything like it anywhere ive Read More

Why in the world... - 2/1/2013
...Would anyone choose to move to Ashland? I moved from Wilmington, NC about 7 months ago, not by choice. There's not a whole lot to do around here, and unless you grew up here, its hard to fit in.
the one and only plus side? The scenery is gorgeous. I miss the beach, but these hills are pretty spectacular. Read More

Small town with big city stuff to do. - 6/23/2009
Living on the border of Huntington, WV & Ironton, Ohio and being the largest town in NE Ky. there are plenty of ways to enjoy life all within a half hour of home. There are several malls, a museum, 3 state parks besides various small parks. There's a couple of country clubs, Paramount Theatre. Am Vets, VFW, private & public swimming pools, every religion imaginable & lower prices than most places. Our movie theatres in the summer have free movies & $3. matinees. Places to eat from fast food to exotic, single meal or buffet. Gun & car shows, fairs. Summer motion is every July 4th week and in the past has had the Beach Boys,Doobie Brothers, Paul Revere & the Raiders, The Platters, etc. all for free. The list is endless.Though I have lived elsewhere I consider Ashland, Ky.'s best kept Read More

Was Claudius talking about a different place? - 4/14/2009
To the poster that said ashland,ky is a place where most the plants have closed down, i would like to know where he is obtaining this info from. I live in ashland, ky and no plants have shut down in ashland, ever. both the major plants in the area, ak steel and marathon refinery are functioning as always and employ several thousand ashland area residents with wages above the national average. Our medical center is the third largest in the state behind lexington and louisville. The Ashland Town Center Mall has a 98% occupancy rate. The population of ashland has not declined at all. Only 2% since 1990, and that population that left just moved outside the city limits where most of the new housing developments have been in the last 20 yrs. Within a 3 mile radius of the ashland city limits there are another 19,000 residents, which is also the largest unincorporated area in the state of ky. I live here and claudius's post was simply not true in any form. The unemployment rate is 4.6%, Read More

A town in ruins - 12/3/2008
