Depressed, bitter, dull, narrow-minded, and mean p - 7/30/2007
If you have any kind of a personality and if you are friendly and outgoing...stay as far away as possible from Boston and from New England for that matter.
This place is full of depressed, worn out, and bitter people. It will wear you out and, before you know it, you will be depressed and bitter too. Take a walk around and you will see what I mean. People are untidy and wearing wrinkled clothes, smelly winter coats full of cat hair, long untidy hair and with that charateristic sour face. People have facial hair, nasty moles, crooked teeth, worse so than in one of the slums of London. They also like butter on everything. It is simply unbelievable. It is so expensive that no one has any cash in their pockets which only adds to their misery. Doctors and lawyers live in small old buildings without elevators, central air or parking. It seems like the women don't have money for make-up, manicures, or perfume.
If you are looking for a bright and upbeat city with

Boston, Climate: weather not terrible, but so-so - 7/11/2007
Boston is not the Arctic wasteland that people from southern climates might picture. Still, winters here are decidedly brisk. Most winter days are cold—usually in the thirties, frequently only in the twenties, down to the teens at night, with an occasional day when temperatures nudge into the forties. Almost every winter has several brief spells when it gets down to zero or below at night, and every few years there will be extended periods of such frigid weather—a couple of weeks or longer. Along the coast, snowfall averages a little over three feet per year. A few miles inland, this average increases to four feet or more. Perhaps the most unpleasant feature of winter in Boston is its length. Raw weather sets in around mid-November and remains until late March. Late winter and early spring are a sloppy mix of low skies, dank winds, wet and heavy snow, and biting rain. Springtime has its share of pleasant weather, especially after about mid-April, but much of so-called

Boston, General: Costs outweigh the benefits - 7/8/2007
Boston is like the old verse about the little girl whose hair curled down in the middle of her forehead: “When she was good she was very, very good, and when she was bad she was horrid.” As in the case of that little girl, many of Boston’s good points are really nice, while the negatives are pretty bad. A picturesque setting where a river makes a wide sweep into a bay; a location two hours’ drive or less from beaches, mountains, and lakes; a world-class art museum, an aquarium, a top science museum, and a symphony orchestra that plays in a concert hall considered one of the world’s best for acoustics; passionate sports fans, who follow teams with long, storied histories; several major rock concert venues in the metro area; elegant shops, sidewalk cafes, restaurants for every taste, and a bunch of funky night spots; quaint neighborhoods with history at every turn. Sounds great, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, there’s a price to pay for all of this: crowds; traffic congestion and

Do your homework! - 6/2/2007
Been to Boston many times and must say that the weather is schizophrenic. You will get everything in the timespan of a week and I believe this affects brain chemicals, sunshine is best as a natural anti-depressant. There is definately an inferiority complex here, people seem to take things very personal, from politics, sports and socio-economic status. Housing is outrageous and traffic congestion has LA, NYC and Phoenix trumped. Don't get me wrong, there is enormously fascinating history, traditional architecture and some of the best schools in the country here, however, do your "homework" before chancing a random move here. I would suggest a place that is more "down to earth" and civil, although that is vastly becoming a thing of the past in America. Maybe Portland, OR, Austin, TX or just outside Raleigh, NC. Good luck!

I love Boston! - 5/18/2007
I lived in Los Angeles for 11 years; then on to Atlanta, GA for 3 years and now Boston. As much as I enjoyed living in L.A. and Atlanta, Boston has, by far, exceeded all of my expectations! Walking my dog, I run by so many friendly, smiling faces. I have met so many people just talking, talking and more talking while out in the city. People are clean, and busy and whenever, wherever I need to cross the street, I am able to within seconds. Not too much traffic in Boston. I chose a city where I could live in the city, without a car, and walk everywhere. I love the shopping, I love the tourists, I feel safe and I work so that I can afford to live in the city. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else and I wouldn't want to have to depend on public transportation or a car to get anywhere, so I live in the city and walk everywhere. Maybe if I had to depend on other ways of getting around I wouldn't be so happy. But, I am very happy in Boston and the weather isn't bad at all! Many

Boston is worst city in USA - 5/11/2007
Boston is home to the worst drivers, worst roads, meanest people and baddest weather to boot. A week in Boston is a year in purgatory. I never met more stuck up people or narrower ideas than in Boston.
Do not try to drive in Boston. A trip from Fitchburg to Logan is a nightmare and sure to leave you shaking. No one lets anyone else in line.
The restaurants have decent food but surly waitstaff, as if they are a bit too good to really take care of YOU! Stay away from anything near Fanuell(sp?) Hall.
For a real taste of elitism, try to have a discussion with anyone indoctrinated at Harvard or any of the other area colleges. The most attended course appears to be "Smug 101".
I went to school near Boston and remembered it fondly until my recent visit.
I intend to stay far far away. Perhaps it will slip into the bay one day and save America.
