Great museums, lots of history - 7/12/2023
Visited on and off over the years. It is actually green in the surrounding areas, right in town it lacks good green planning. Being so close to Carson and Tahoe, obviously I would chose Toahoe if I had to live in either BUT if you are able to visit or stay in the rural areas nearby you'll get a jackpot of beauty and peacefulness. Nevada has a lot more to offer than California in general in my opinion just because since it's better managed, and Carson City is a must go to at least once because of it's history. I've also visoted Vegas and Reno, but will not be reviewing becaise I have little good to say about those places. Carson City is another matter, definitely recommend! Very good museums too. Read More

Not a good place to live - 10/29/2022
I'd give Carson City a zero if I could. Simply, there's nothing to do here except drink and gamble. Sure, Tahoe seems close, but the vibrant part is about 40 minutes away. By vibrant, of course mean where you can...gamble.

Aside from there being nothing to do, I swear this town was designed by a drunk 3rd grader. The traffic lights give green lights to no one, can't see motorcycles, and don't work at all when it's wet. There's lights everywhere expect the "nice" part of town. Many lights could simply be 2 or 4 way stop signs, and the way they operate encourages running reds, tailgating, and speeding.

Another bad part of Carson is the people. They're either oblivious Californians, or arrogant, ignorant Nevadans. Common courtesy and reasonability doesn't exist here.

There's very few jobs here that'll afford you a decent life. I know that if my job paid me enough, I'd leave in a heartbeat.

Please, please stop moving here. There's Read More

Wonderful to Raise Children and Retire - 11/18/2018
Carson City, Nevada is a wonderful place to raise a family and/or retire. We raised our two youngest children here and now we are retired, after moving to CC 21 years ago. Anything that you could possibly want is within a 1 hour drive: gorgeous Lake Tahoe with beaches, many world class ski resorts, hunting & fishing, casino resorts, numerous hiking trails, Reno "Biggest Little City in the World", brothels, historic Virginia City, wild horses, and much more. If you are bored living in CC, you are just a boring Read More

I can't stand it - 1/8/2015
I've lived here my entire life. I get SO exited every time I step foot out of this city. If you love a more local community, and deserts. This is the place for you. But, if you love nature, it can get depressing. All I want is something new. Carson City makes you feel like you're on constant repeat. Everything is the same every year, everything is the same every day. There is absolutely nothing to do. We have a cinnima, and a park. That's about it. No matter where you look, you can always see sagebrush, and that's all you'll ever see. The town is colorless. The few things I like are that it's very community based, the highschool is outstanding (GO SENATORS!), and you can ask anyone who lived here, but there's a guy who marches around town all day, every day twirling a stick around. He's the town hero!! Tahoe and Reno are close, which is convenient as Read More

Carson City is a hidden treasure - 1/11/2013
Carson City is a small capital city in Northern Nevada just east of Lake Tahoe. It is a gorgeous high desert mountain town that is the perfect size for quick access to everything that you need, including work, schools, shopping, restaurants, medical care, and outdoor recreation. It has a nationally recognized historic district, a regional medical center, an observatory, the State Capital Complex, river rafting, and an abundance of unique places to discover. It's not a place to drive through, but a place to spend some time in and Read More

Mild year 'round climate in Carson City - 3/7/2011
We are a four-season climate, but not in the sense of four seasons in the East or midwest. Ours is a mild climate year 'round and we rarely break 100 in the summer and never below zero in the winter. Ours is a dry climate making 40 degrees in the winter seem almost spring like. Yes, it snows, but melts quickly. We have a colorful fall and a short, but beautiful, Read More

Not many better - 9/5/2010
I've lived in CC for 25 years, raised my family there and never thought much about how fortunate we were to be so close to everything city and nature. Now my company has relocated to lower Alabama! If you think CC is bad, or other places are better, try moving to "paddle faster" Read More

Very Unhappy in Carson City - 9/22/2009
There is nothing attractive to see here. Just alot of sage brush. Hey if you like the desert this is the place 4 U. I came from Northern California & I really miss being at sea level! I miss seeing anything green, the only green you will see here is a golf course. I miss Redwood trees, Oak trees, everything beautiful.
I've had nothing but problems with the elevation here, 4,500 or so. And I've developed major depression being here. Fortunately I'll be moving to a north/west state very Read More

Fantastic place! - 6/28/2007
Carson City definetly has the hillbilly element, but if you can look beyond that, this is one of the best places to live in the country. We are in the valley right below Lake Tahoe, which is 15 minutes away. It is the most beautiful valley I have ever seen. There is a high population of pilots here because it is so spectacular to fly here. World class skiing is within 20 minutes in all directions, but we don't get dumped on down here like the higher elevations. Every other person has a boat because there are a LOT of lakes..Tahoe of course, but many more. Kayacking is within easy access too. Reno is 20 minutes away if you need city, without having to live in it. It's perfect weather most of the time. It is a true outdoor Read More
