What can you say about Las Vegas? It's not a major metropolitan area but it's not small either. If you like the nightlife then this is a great place to be. If you are more family oriented well, you may have some issues. Small children wouldn't have such a hard time but older kids between 12-18 may not like it so much because there's not a lot for them to do here. If you like the arts, we just built the Smiths Center which is a great asset to the community. It gives us some of the culture we were lacking. We still have a ways to go in that aspect. A sports perspective...we lack that also. UNLV is the only real sports in the community with the basketball team being the only real show in town. Major sports would be nice but due to size and betting the odds of getting a professional team are very minimal. We only have one major accredited university in southern NV and if you looking for a good inexpensive in state college UNR is a better option from a national standpoint. We Read More

Las Vegas ~ Heaven or Hell ~ Depending.... - 10/28/2012
If you have family here, such as husband/wife or extended family then I suppose it's not so bad. If you enjoy fretting over what seems the highest car crime in the country? Help yourself...

Casinos can be fun, but I was raised in Pasadena California, so had stuff to do like great hiking, beach or snow all in the same day if you want.
There is NO culture, NO sense of community, but you might like it if all you want to do is get drunk, gamble, and have illicit sex with the hordes of whores that live here... If you say "hi" people look at you like you're insane. I moved here to save money after I lost my teaching job in California ~ THEN?? I moved here, thinking it would be cheaper and fun. BUT, I'm trying to dig my way out AS WE SPEAK! WHY do people raise their kids here? **That is the million-dollar question. Thank goodness, I have a very stable job as a writer, which I can do from anywhere in the country; plus looking to start my own biz soon.

if you like shallowness, bad professional services - 10/17/2012
Then this is the place to be. The weather makes one to stay indoors often. Worked with Real Estate agents, CPA, and attorney and all services were average or poor at best. I even went to 2 different hair salons and it was overpriced and horrible. When someone is friendly to you... chances are that person may want something from you. I pray each day that i can move out of Read More

Looking to Move - 10/6/2012
I have lived in Las Vegas, Nevada nearly all my life. I went to college and graduate school at UNLV and worked in the gaming industry for many years. However, it is time for me to move on.

Las Vegas is known for its hot summers and mild winters. I'd like to find someplace more scenic with four seperate seasons. I would also like to live close to a body of water. While Lake Mead is very close to Las Vegas, it is more of a recreational area. There is also a small ski resort Read More

Save Yourself a Move - 10/4/2012
If you relocate to Las Vegas, Nevada, it will only be a short time before you move on. The city is unlivable unless you are a millionaire and then I am not sure it's good even for them.

There is no culture. The city revolves around sex, drugs, and gambling. There is nothing else to do or any community spirit. Read More

Don't Move to Las Vegas - 10/4/2012
Don't make the mistake I did and move to Las Vegas. You will have no friends, except the numerous con artists and the city is all about sex, drugs and money and not much Read More

Mixed Feelings - 9/24/2012
I like Vegas in a lot of respects but dislike it in other respects.

Likes:

Weather - don't have to worry about hurricanes, tornados etc. We have flooding every once in a while. It’s hot but only 3 months out of the year and with the dryness, it doesn’t feel bad. 100 is quite bearable.

Dining – Lots of restaurants and buffets and all price ranges.

Entertainment – A lot to do and all hours of the day - plays, shows, comedy shows, live music, gambling, bowling, bingo etc.

Outdoors – You have the mountains (skiing close by), Lake Mead and Red Rock Canyon that are all beautiful. I would boat on the lake but no way swim in it. It’s filthy. Last time I went there were dirty diapers on the beach! YUCK

Shopping – Abundance of shopping and several outlet malls.

People – I find most people to be very nice and friendly.

Traffic – Traffic is “ok” but it all depends on where you Read More

I do not recommend moving to Las Vegas. The state, as a whole, is at the bottom of all factors one considers for residence.  Read More

Decent place to live - 8/18/2012
If you can stand the 112 degree heat and hot temps from about April-November, you may do well here. Unfortunately the school district is ranked almost last in the US, so if you can afford private school that is another bonus. Other than that Vegas has a low cost of living and offers a decent quality of life. If you love night life this is definitely the place for you. Not alot to do during the day and not alot of culture, but that is changing. Jobs are scarce and the population is overall uneducated; therefore, jobs don't pay well and if you have a degree, you won't get paid for it. There are alot of nice parks, pools, etc. If you are young, with no children or older with no children, Vegas may work for Read More

Worse Place I have ever lived. - 8/6/2012
Well I am a very honest person and will tell anyone the truth. I moved here to SW Vegas 2-1/2 years ago thinking this was a good place to retire somewhat young. Biggest mistake of my life. Housing was the only saving grace. I originally lived in cali, then moved to Oregon for 15 years then here. This is not a town for families with children, the school system here is the worst in the country and we are also known for the highest domestic violence in the nation. Unemployment is difficult to find and seems like everyone here has to work 2-3 jobs to make ends meet. This causes alot of stress and unhappy people. I work in retail and see sad, depressed people everyday because the economy here sucks. I am selling and probably will lose alot of money but feel it is worth getting the hell out of this horrible town. Love the weather but people are rude, and on our roads over 115 traffic related deaths so far since Jan. Wow pedestrians don't have a chance here. Drivers are by far the worse I Read More
