We Like Portland - 4/23/2006
Why is it that the only negative comments about Portland are from intolerant people who want things the "way they were." Yes, Portland has undergone some changes and a influx of "outsiders". But I consider this a good thing. Whereas in the past, the food was terribleand boring, the cultural scene was boring, and the population was horribly homogenous, these "outsiders" (read, Californians, East Coast people) have done a lot to diversify the city and to bring a much-needed infusion of sophistication to Portland.

If you're complaining about real estate prices, Portland is still relatively cheap for a large city on the West Coast. In fact, it is probably the cheapest major metropolitan area on the West Coast. If you don't believe this, check out the average home prices in Seattle, San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Even home prices in less-than-desirable areas in California such as the Central Valley have shot through the roof and have probably Read More

This Liberal City Is For Me! - 4/19/2006
I have been a resident of Seattle for many years. I have always been very fond of Portland as well. Comparing the data on this site, especially the section of voting and the cost of housing, I have decided to relocate to Portland. They are both beautiful cities but the fact that there are more registered Democrats in Portland verses Seattle - I am Read More

Color me Conservative - 4/12/2006
We moved here in 1995 from Alaska.....now I wonder why. If you want beauty, clean air, friendly people, great water and outdoor recreation beyond compare, go to Alaska. Sure Portland is a pretty city but the air quality is horrible, the water is nasty....do not eat fish from the Willamette (sewer) River. The people are so liberal that most children are spoiled rotten and have little respect for their parents or anything else, pan handling is a way of life, lesbians flop their breasts out in public parades and the mayor rides with them. The moss and ivy grow faster than the grass and if you have allergies, prepare to suffer. We live in a great neighborhood with wonderful neighbors and we will miss it and them, but not the city and the Read More

For Better and For Worse - 3/27/2006
Portland, granted, is not the same as it was when I first moved here (from Cincinnati) in '97. When I came here, everyone was nicer, the Pearl District didn't look like SoMa (San Francisco's South of Market area), and housing wasn't through the roof. I left for New orleans in 2001, and returned to Mosco on the willamette...er, Portland, in 2003. I have to say that part of me regrets ever returning- folks (mostly from California- or worse, Las Vegas, I presume) having nastier (folks from New Jersey and New York are friendlier than some of the folks I've encountered. I'm threatening to move away...but Portland is like a drug. Bad for you, but still addictive. Thos who want to come here, really take what others say under Read More
