Houston Hell Hole - 5/1/2007
Houston is one of the worst places I have ever lived. I cannot believe the rankings about the city are even close to accurate. Murders every day. Children maimed and injured by the police. Air pollution so bad that driving to Galveston requires a haz-mat suit. Corrupt pliticians and police officers in the pocket of the oil companies. No public parks that are safe for kids to play in and for out of 12 months it's too hot and humid to even leave your home. The lakes are too polluted to swim in, and you can't even eat the fish you catch in them anymore if you can find an non-polluted spot.
To summarize, avoid Houston like the plaque. There is a lot of money in the city but what good is that when you and your kids get Multiple Sclerosis or asthma or bone cancer.

Run Away - 4/18/2007
Houston is a city now ravaged by crime and trash littering the streets. It looks as New Orleans looked post Katrina. Houston is no longer a nice place to live, I was robbed at gunpoint in my gated community and decided to finally leave this crime infested city. Crime rate has climbed at an alarming rate since Katrina. Never ending road construction creates rather spectacular traffic jams and makes the driving a nightmare, and also creates a continual haze of dug-up clay in the air which then settles on your vehicles and sticks on with the constant rain to create a sticky clay glaze on all vehicles all the time. Need to use a brillo pad for removal. Trash buildup on the side of every road is becoming a significant problem as well.
Houston is a dump.

Reply to David - 4/18/2007
David you sound bitter. The surbs are not 2 hours away. I have lived all over the country and Houston is by far the cheapest nice place to live. I own a 5 bdrm 3 1/2 bth with a study,gm rm,media room, with 2 lv rms,and 2 dn rms. No, I'm not rich. Houston offers opps you can't find anywhere else in America. I only paid 235,000 for it. Also my community is gated and guarded 24 hours. Now that's cheap,it takes me 30 minutes to get dwtn.

Quality of Life - 4/13/2007
Houston is a decent place with plenty of entertainment, shopping, and access to recereational activity. Schools are generally good. My complaint against Houston is the apparent lack of urban planning (i.e. sprawl), lack of good public transport such as rail, and very hot and humid weather much of the year. Everyhting one wants to do requires a great deal of driving and waiting in

Good climate - 4/10/2007
Houston's climate is nice if you consider the entire year. The winters typically somewhere between mild to non-existant. The spring and fall last a long time in Houston. When summer comes it's nice to have a pool.

For real entertainment on the whole Dallas-Houston feud (oh boy, you had to get them started!! grin), you should visit the Houston Architecture Forum.
In a nutshell ...
Dallas is experiencing record crime rates. Then again, Houston's southwest has had an increase in crime. I think you'll find that this is the case throughout major US cities, and has to do with demographics (i.e. a boom in teenagers reaching the age when they're most likely to commit crimes).
As far as quality of life and so on... Dallas is a more formal, dress-to-impress kind of city, with both Fort Worth and Houston being more down to earth. I would compare it to the difference between LA and San Francisco. San Francisco is proud of its upscale atmosphere, and the city as a whole swings more to one side of the political spectrum, just like Dallas.
Whereas LA and Houston are much more diverse in lifestyle and live-and-let-live about its

Houston is 2nd in Texas to Austin - 3/23/2007
My blog assignment for class:
Anyone who has been to Austin knows it is the best city in Texas. I have lived in Austin, and loved the time I spent living in San Francisco, but my hometown of Houston definitely deserves more credit than it receives. In order to truly enjoy Houston you have to know where to go. It's not a scenic San Francisco or a Charleston, but its a huge cultural city with everything from filthy rich oil money to some of the best artists in the world. Houston has more culture then any other city in Texas, with the 2nd biggest Theatre District in the country (to New York), an expansive Museum District, some of the best shopping around, and of course, an overload of awesome restaurants, pubs, lounges, wine dives, and anything else you could think of. My favorite part of the city is it's beautiful parks. Yes, it rains, but not near as much as it shines. It gets hot in the summer but has beautiful winters. While some people would prefer the concrete slabs of
