Too hot! - 8/31/2008
I know that Houston is an international city and major hub with lots of things to do, and a pretty low cost of living with plenty of employment oppotunities.
That said, the weather here is miserable. There are no seasons, hurricanes are attracted to the area as if magnetized, the humidity is unbearable, and Houston is far too large to be comfortable or friendly

If you can't stand the heat... - 8/23/2008
Just as the saying goes, you must really be able to stand the heat AND the humidity to like living here. I have lived in the south for 90 percent of my life and I don't think I've ever had such a hard time dealing with the heat as I have had here. Maybe I am just sick of it, I don't know, but it's disgusting. Also, when they give the daily weather reports on TV, most days the air quality is not good at all. There are so many factories and plants, especially in the south and east areas of Houston and that's mainly what affects the air quality. But you can definitely feel it when you are spending time outside. My allergies are worse since moving here.
The good things about this area is that there is plenty to do in the way of museums, shopping and the arts. The Houston ballet is one of the best in the world and a must see! There is a museum for everything and don't forget about NASA. Houston also has an incredible medical district that is utilized by people all over the world.

Suffocating Heat! - 8/10/2008
I am Southern "born and bred" but I swear that this heat is becoming more and more intolerable. If you love heat (and sweating) and not having much of a Fall and even less Winter, this could very well be the city for you. I've been here almost 7 years. If I make the 10th year, it'll be due to an extreme abundance of blessings.
In spite of that, opportunities here are abundant. The cost of living is moderate. Compared to cities such as Austin and Dallas (let's not even mention L.A. and Chicago), housing is very affordable. As for utility companies, the most common complaint is that we pay more for electricity (Reliant) - even compared to other Texas cities.
Culturally diverse, ample entertainment.
Long streets make it easy to learn the city.
As with most major cities, the traffic is a nuisance, but they are expanding the Katy Fwy (I-10) and in my years here, they've added the Westpark Tollway and Ft. Bend Tollway. Hopefully in the

Rapidly becoming a third world city - 5/30/2008
Having lived in Houston since 1971 I can report that the quality of life has deteriorated to unacceptable. If you love dirty air, high crime rate, terrible schools, high taxes and traffic congestion beyond imagination then you will love Houston, Texas. City government is pretty much gustappo style, and in general the State Of Texas is following California with its high taxes and fees. Now, Texas has passed a business income tax plan that will make the State an extremely hostile environment for business. Beware, you have been warned

Please someone give me a straight honest answer ab - 5/22/2008
I've visited Houston and do not understand the comparison between Dallas and Houston. I looked everywhere in Houston and was not impressed. From overrated Sugarland to Katy, up to the Woodlands and everything in between. When I drove down the roads, there was more trash. The roads look like crap, all crumbling. I goto Dallas and everywhere you have sidewalks, cement roads, grassy medians, Houston doesn't. Houston, all I saw were run down shopping centers, next to new subdivisions, then trailor parks to that. whats with all the ugly electric lines everywhere? The people were more laid back but seemed more trashy. A lot more blue collar. I didn't feel safe in Houston, the demeanor of people was questionable. Can someone explain how Houston and Dallas are so much alike? I sure didn't see it. From what I saw, Houston is a lot more run down, poor zoning, horrible curb appeal. Someone tell me what I'm missing? Isn't Houston one of the fattest cities in the US? Worst ozone? Worst traffic?
