Houston is Hell on Earth - 7/27/2006
I've lived here for over two decades now, most of that time was not by choice. Anyway, I've watched Houston go to Hell. It was never that great of a city to begin with, but it has reached an all new low. If you're black, mexican, or white trash you'll fit in here perfectly. I would say Houston's one good point would be the job market, because there are a lot of jobs here, however if you're not an immigrant it will be hard to get any kind of a job. Cheap housing? Compared to other areas this is true, although with all things considered its not worth it. I'd rather live in a clean, crime free, evacuee free area and pay a little more for the roof over my head. And to all that made the comment, "If you hate Houston so much, LEAVE!", well guess what, I AM! As soon as humanly possible. I just thought I'd shed some light on everything, it seems most of the posters on this board haven't been here that long, so you haven't seen the gradual decline of the city over the years. So I bid this

Houston - A Great American City! All are Welcome, - 7/12/2006
It's interesting, really to see that "Raymond" has posted most of the derrogatory comments about Houston on this message board...
Memo to Raymond: LEAVE already! Maybe you can try Port Arthur instead!
I lived in Louisville, KY for 3-1/2 years and couldn't wait to return to civilization! The Houston area (other than HISD) boasts some of the best schools and reasonable cost of living in the entire country. The overall climate is really very good with exception of July and August which admittingly are extremely hot! Winters are very mild with the occasional damp, cold days. Four professional sports teams (Texans, Astros, Rockets and Dynamos)is a plus! The diversity is very compelling as well. Houston, in my opinion is a first class city! Can't be too bad as almost 5 million people call Metro Houston home!

Houston - 7/9/2006
I have lived in many differnt parts of the states, here is my take. If you are thinking about moving to Houston, determine what you value. Some pros: good job market, low cost of living, nice winters, great restaraunts, sports town, a lot to do. Some cons: June-Oct HOT and HUMID, air quality is terrible, city growing too fast city cannot keep up with general services, crime is increasing, public transportation is a joke, limited parks, 2 that I consider parks that service 4 million people. Houston is a great place for a young person to start a career and get established, but to raise a family, there are better

Houston has its problems, but I like my Montrose - 7/4/2006
One good thing about Houston is that if you don't like where you're living, just move to another part of town, and you just might find something to like. Houston is not a monolithic place; each part of town has something different to offer. When I first moved here in 1995, I lived out in the 'burbs in Katy. If I had stayed there, I probably would be ranting and raving like many of the other posters who hate Houston. I just didn't like where I was. But then during college I started working in the Montrose/Museum District area and discovered that this is where I want to be. I finally got an apartment in the area about 3 years ago and love it. It's in a central location in the city, so it's convenient to many areas, such as Downtown, the Galleria, and the Medical Center. You can get to any of these places without taking freeways, which is a big plus. Montrose is kind of the quirky, "artsy" part of town, so it's close to all the museums and galleries, there are lots of little

It's not all bad... - 7/2/2006
I'm going to try and give an objective, clear-eyed review of this city that I call home. Every city has bad points, and, obviously, Houston is no different. So yes, Houston has roaches you could give small children rides on, mosquitoes, and sauna-like conditions from April to October if you're lucky, but usually into November and even December. Some people like that sort of weather. I am not one of those. And what's that smell?? Oh, I think we're downwind from Pasadena.
It has no zoning laws, which makes it seem a bit messy and chaotic, though that has a certain bizarre charm with the right frame of mind (or enough drugs, take your pick). It sometimes seems as if the street plans were laid out by someone who had ingested some very interesting substances, or who had a sadistic sense of humor. The streets don't seem to be organized in any particular way in most areas, and to make it even more fun, some streets change names for no apparent reason.
