GET. ME. OUTTA. HERE. - 8/11/2018
I’ve lived in several major cities and Houston is by far the worst. It feels like an overgrown suburb. Poor design. Hard to commute via bicycle, public transit, or walking. Came for grad school, leaving ASAP.

Its actually not too bad - 7/31/2018
I love this place. World class museums, renowned symphony and theater, a food scene the world is finally starting to take notice of. Plus great local music, excellent nightlife, and an attitude that is half Texan friendly and half big city mind your business.
Yeah, its hot. Unspeakably so. And wet. We live in a drained swamp. The traffic sucks. Transit is getting better but still a major headache.
Warts and all, its a great city.

Way too hot. - 7/28/2018
I moved her 6 years ago for a job. I lived in Seattle for 13 yrs, and before that was raised in northern California. If beautiful surroundings mean anything to you, you will not be happy in Houston. It's just ugly. It's much too hot for most of the year, and even in the winter months, when the heat cools down, it's still humid. I get this gross slimy stuff on my windshield in the winter months. It's very limited as far as outdoor recreation is concerned. The beach is absolutely disgusting and because of the heat hiking is out - IF they had any hills or mountains to hike on, which they don't. I miss that a lot - being able to get outdoors and hike or go sailing without getting heat

Bad Move - 6/24/2018
I moved here in 1987. I do not have a single thing to say that is positive. The negatives are just over-whelming. Go somewhere else! Anywhere! I have been a victim of crime so many times that I have lost count. Driving is a nightmare. No one Carrie's insurance or a license. The police chases will scare you to death along with the wrong way drivers. The weather is just plain unpleasant. I have never found decent rental housing. The City doesn't support any of their own rules. There is no zoning. Forget about recreation. There is none. The air is life-threatening. And the employers are very anti-employee. You just plain won't like

Decided Houston is not for me - 5/11/2018
We moved to Houston a week after Harvey and saw stores and houses with all the residents ruined belongings in piles at curbside. Everyone was in shock and people. We stayed in a motel the first few nights which was full of people displaced from the flood. It was sad but most people were kind. Then I started watching the news and paying closer attention. Good thing we signed a lease before a month before Harvey, cause afterwards landlords jacked up their rents buy hundreds of dollars a month. Even the hotels did, the hotel clerk was surprised we had such a low rate until we told him we booked before Harvey. A bunch of hotels raised their rates. Housing prices went up as well, crap shacks in popular neighborhoods go for $500,000. We started exploring and saw signs of gentrification all over the place, which can be good. But of coarse the new houses are 4 to 5 times higher and people are being driven out of their neighborhoods. There are up and coming posh neighborhoods of

Climate Sucks—No Stars for Houston, Texas - 3/25/2018
Don’t be fooled by the paid PR pros who refer to Houston’s climate as “mild.” That’s not true—86 degrees with 92% humidity is brutally hot. And just wait when June, July, August, September, and October hit. Yes, try Trick-or-Treating when it’s 91 degrees at 6 pm. LOL, Houston’s climate is far from mild. It’s hotter than hell with year-round summers punctuated by weakened cold fronts in January that last 22 hours tops. Then the front reverses in the Gulf of Mexico and returns as a tropical wave. It’s either hot or warm and the humidity is so high, you will feel dripping wet 24/7. To stay comfortable, your A/C will run 12 months each year and you won’t be able to go outside for a walk or work in the garden without feeling sticky. The city is flat, ugly and congested. There are way better places to live where there’s an actual quality of life and four real

The 77096 area is good - 3/12/2018
Although I'm still not giving Houston any stars because it's way too hot and humid the people are very very very rude but there is one area in Houston if you do not have a lot of money which is the Bellaire/Meryland area 77096 the Meyerland area is a Jewish Community the people are very nice but I have to forewarn you that the Meyerland area floods really really bad if you buy a house make sure it is on stilts no I'm dead serious but it or putting houses on stilts now because that's the area that a lot of you seen on the news if you happen to live in an apartment make sure you live on the second floor and I'm being very serious buy you a life jacket for everyone in your home because this area floods really really bad the schools are absolutely amazing absolutely if you have the money to do that to your house go right on ahead and do it but just have you and flood evacuation ready I suggest taking Chimney Rock until it runs out to Highway 290 make a left turn on 290 and just get away

Several Things to Know - 12/31/2017
Hello, I have lived in Houston for 9 years now, and I want to share some good and bad.
First, the good:
- Diversity. With many cultures present in the city, one can have a more colourful experience. There are even many places of worship for Muslims, Hindus, etc.
- Various neighbourhoods, with enough distinction between them. Mahatma Gandhi District, Alief, Fifth Ward, Montrose, etc.
- A bit more growing pride. Streets have been a bit cleaner (less litter) now than when I first moved here.
- Opportunities. Houston has been a gas and oil city, but other ventures, such as health and technology, are available.
- Houston area has a 4.1% unemployment rate as I am writing this.
- Compared to other US cities especially Chicago, less severe winter weather.
- Tonnes of museums. Museum of Fine Arts can be interesting, in my opinion.
- Very large medical research
- Infrastructure is not too bad, though could be much better
