What BestPlaces Users Say about California
California is known for its diverse landscapes, vibrant cities, and thriving economy. It is home to some of the most iconic landmarks in the United States, such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Hollywood. With a population of over 39 million, it is the most populous state in the country. However, living in California comes with its own set of challenges, including high living costs and natural disasters. Let's take a look at what people have to say about living in this particular place.
According to user reviews on BestPlaces, living in California has its pros and cons. One user, JohnD, highlights the state's natural beauty and opportunities for outdoor activities: "Living in California has been a dream come true for me. The weather is amazing, and there's always something to do outdoors." On the other hand, another user named SarahH mentions the high cost of living: "I've been struggling to make ends meet in California due to the high cost of living. Rent and taxes are through the roof." Despite the high living costs, many users still appreciate the state's diverse culture and career opportunities.
Another user, MichaelS, shares his experience with the wildfires that frequently occur in California: "Living in California has its risks, especially with the constant threat of wildfires. It can be nerve-wracking, but the community comes together in times of crisis." Similarly, JessicaT mentions the earthquakes and how it has affected her perception of living in California: "I always knew earthquakes were a possibility, but experiencing one firsthand was terrifying. It's something to consider before moving here."
In conclusion, California has its advantages and disadvantages for its residents. The state's natural beauty, diverse culture, and career opportunities are highly praised, but the high cost of living and natural disasters are also significant factors to consider. Overall, it seems that living in California is a mixed experience, and it ultimately depends on an individual's preferences and priorities.

San Francisco is only gettting more expensive - 1/13/2011
I've lived in San Francisco since 1982 and have watched this city evolve into a huge metro city. The city changed drastically since the dot com boom. All of a sudden prices of homes soared. After the dot com implosion prices have not some down. Crime has increased since I've lived here. If anyone is thinking about relocation, do your homework before moving here; expect sticker shock of housing, parking, bridge tolls ($6.00 per day).
Thanks

Born and raised here (CA), but ... - 1/3/2011
California is tired and battered.
The Politicians and the unions are slowly grinding this poor state to its knees. To listen to some, California is broke and things are not getting better. I am an eternal optimist, but you can only beat a dead horse for so long.
2011 is just starting. California has elected to 4 years a Governor which has had that position before and did nothing to help the state out of the past before, so I don't see many changes coming down the line from him. He will be happy with the status quo and I have a feeling he is just wanting to add to his retirement package before that takes place.
I keep hoping things will improve here in California. Governor Arnold was supposed to have done some big time changes, but the reality of politics here and the Unions kept him from doing much. It is so sad to see my great state in such a dismal place right now.
So many business have left us locally (Kern County), many recently

California used to be my home sweet home - 1/2/2011
I am a fifth generation Californian.
Unfortunately, due to the economy and the horrible mismanagement of this beautiful state, we can no afford to live and do business here.
The P.C., ultra-liberal, immoral climate has run into the ground.
It is no longer the city my father was born in.
I am so sad to leave this beautiful state but look forward to a better
quality of life and some sense of sane living else where.

If you don't like California...GO AWAY!!!! - 12/22/2010
I am 53 years old and have called California my home for most of those years. Yes...California (not Cali) has problems but so does every other state. You pay a premium to live here but it is well worth it. You have the Pacific Ocean in one direction, the Sierra Nevada Mountains in another and everythng you could ever want in between. If you don't like California....feel free to leave otherwise make the best of it. LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT....IT DOES NOT MAKE

Central Valley of California - 11/26/2010
California has a higher than average cost of living but the central valley area is a good bet. Most of the central valley is a slow moving farming population in a moderate change motion. The central valley is growing with new housing developments but little job opportunities. A rapid rail system has just been approved and with help greatly with collective transportation to and from the Bay Area. Must become acclimated to poor air quality and enjoy quiet walks in beautiful orchards.
