What BestPlaces Users Say about California

California is known for its diverse landscapes, vibrant cities, and thriving economy. It is home to some of the most iconic landmarks in the United States, such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Hollywood. With a population of over 39 million, it is the most populous state in the country. However, living in California comes with its own set of challenges, including high living costs and natural disasters. Let's take a look at what people have to say about living in this particular place.

According to user reviews on BestPlaces, living in California has its pros and cons. One user, JohnD, highlights the state's natural beauty and opportunities for outdoor activities: "Living in California has been a dream come true for me. The weather is amazing, and there's always something to do outdoors." On the other hand, another user named SarahH mentions the high cost of living: "I've been struggling to make ends meet in California due to the high cost of living. Rent and taxes are through the roof." Despite the high living costs, many users still appreciate the state's diverse culture and career opportunities.

Another user, MichaelS, shares his experience with the wildfires that frequently occur in California: "Living in California has its risks, especially with the constant threat of wildfires. It can be nerve-wracking, but the community comes together in times of crisis." Similarly, JessicaT mentions the earthquakes and how it has affected her perception of living in California: "I always knew earthquakes were a possibility, but experiencing one firsthand was terrifying. It's something to consider before moving here."

In conclusion, California has its advantages and disadvantages for its residents. The state's natural beauty, diverse culture, and career opportunities are highly praised, but the high cost of living and natural disasters are also significant factors to consider. Overall, it seems that living in California is a mixed experience, and it ultimately depends on an individual's preferences and priorities.

Unless one is fortunate enough to live near the beach in Southern California, it's just too hot! The farther Inland you go...the hotter it gets...summer is a scorcher...especially when the humidity kicks in later in the summer...then it's HOT & HUMID...more like the Read More

Life styles - 5/8/2008
California is a nice place to live when it comes to weather, the weather cant be beat. The life style now is something else. For me its way to busy, to many people. The cost of living, I believe, is much more expensive as well. The more people you have, the more crime. People tend to be more untrustworthy Read More

Why I Love California - 4/9/2008
Why Do I Love California? What comes to mind first is the diversity of people, cultures, languages, weather, food and beauty. California is beautiful, the hills, valleys, oceans, amusement parks, and the shopping. What comes to most peoples mind when they think of California is Rodeo Drive, limo’s, traffic jams, Hollywood, San Francisco etc but there is so much more to California. Small seaside towns, deserts, forests, out of the way artist communities; you name it California has it.

There is this tempo to California with its laid back people, beautiful sunrises and sunsets. People seem more relaxed…cooler, hipper; there is this chill man, life happens mentality to being a Californian. There is so much to do! All you have to do is pick up a local paper there are tons of things to do from psychic fairs, scientific fairs, out door camping, hiking, fishing, surfing, day trips, you name it they have it going on somewhere in California.

If you choose to live in California...... - 4/8/2008
...this might just be the best place left. Just think what LA, SF, San Jose, Sacramento and San Diego are going to be like in 5, 10, 15, 20 years!

How many more lanes of freeway can they actually add to the 101, Hwy 5, Hwy 80, Hwy 680, Hwy 580, the I10, the 405 in the future? I think it's pretty esay to say the the Golden State's best days are behind it.

San Luis Obispo stands apart from so many places in California and they're not going to be embracing growth any time soon. It's expensive - wow it's Read More

I can't breath - 3/30/2008
I have lived in southern California (Burbank area) all my life (38 years). I am so tired of the smog and bad air. I really want to move out BAD, but I am not sure where. I am thinking of Portland, OR or Raleigh, NC. If anyone has any experience with either of the two places above, please feel free to give me advice.

Relocating out of CA - 2/21/2008
We reside in the Central Valley (modesto region) and would like to relocate out of CA where the cost of living would allow us to live, not 400,000 + for a regular house and not have to commute 200+ miles a day to job in order to have affordable/livable communities to raise our children, where housing Read More
