Overview of Houston - 3/29/2009
Houston definitely has a lot to offer. Due to the oil and gas industry, the economy of this area has remained strong over the past couple of years, or relatively strong compared to other areas.
I was told prior to moving to Houston that I'd either love it or hate it. I must admit I lean towards the latter. My main qualms are with traffic, pollution, and allergies. Traffic is horrible here. Houston is a huge city and can take one hour to get from one side to the other without traffic. Having said that, choose where you live wisely as you'll spend most of your time in that part of town.
Pollution is another bad part of this city. With the vast amount of chemical and petroleum facilities in the area, water and air pollution are a natural result. I have never had allergies until moving to Houston and now I have several. I'll be moving this summer (I'm in the military) so I'm hoping some of those go

humid - 2/21/2009
Besides San Juan, Puerto Rico and Miami, Florida, Houston may be the most humid place I've ever been. The weather is relatively warm year around, which would be great if the relative humidity were not constantly pushing 90-100%. The city is nice, and there are plenty of things to do, but if you are planning on doing outdoor activities, especially in the summer (which feels like it lasts from May-October) be prepared to suffocate under the blanket of warm moist

Need Opinions - 2/21/2009
So every city has drawbacks. I've lived in Minneapolis, MN most of my adult years (only 34 though) and am done. It's clean, cultured and friendly....cost of living is high and winter is 4-6 months. The lack of sun it killing me. Most of the winter has been -10 to 20 degrees. Oh, and when you are single. It is two degrees of seperation. Everyone is connected unless you are new to the Twin Cities.
I've also lived in Tampa and San Fran. I looked at San Diego but how does one afford to live without having two jobs. I'm debating between going back to Tampa or moving to Texas. I've been looking into Austin and Houston. I would like to be near the ocean or in driveable distance. I love water sports and love to scuba dive. I don't mind hot and humid. I liked knowing in Tampa when it would rain in the summers. Everyday around 3 or 4 pm.
So..I am looking for feedback. I'm looking for a place I can settle down and live for years and eventually raise a

Houston, oh how I miss you. - 1/28/2009
I have lived in both Houston & various cities in Ohio (currently in Columbus while attending OSU) & I can't wait to graduate and get back to Houston. I consider Houston "home" even though I was born in Ohio. The people in Houston are super friendly, the shopping is great, and the food is to die for!! The heat and humidity can be daunting, but I'll take that over the snow, ice, and endless grey skies we see all winter in Ohio. Houston's traffic is a little rough, but you get used to it quickly enough. I'm not saying it's perfect in Houston, but it is close enough for me. Like the MANY bumper stickers on the vehicles in Houston say, " I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as quickly as I

Comparison of other Cities - 1/27/2009
Due to the lack of jobs and downsizing, we are forced to relocate. I have been viewing many cities and cannot believe how much more the cost of living is even in small town USA compared to Houston!!!
There isn't much you can call scenery here...everything is flat and mostly concrete. They have done a wonderful jobs with the parks and planting trees but don't plan on an all day hike anywhere because you will run out of walking space.
The medical center is the best! Still jobs are not as plentiful as they once were in boomtown, USA. More and more cutbacks everyday. This wonderful town regrouped and came back with proud after the 90s oil crunch and I hope it stays alive.
I came from Tennessee with real mountains, clean streams and fresh air, but no work there. So, if you are thinking about relocating as we are due to employment, be cautious in what you wish for and where you wish it to be. We will probably return to Tennessee, downsize

Houston Weather - 11/16/2008
Usually the first thing people mention regarding Houston is the heat - or, as is often heard, "It's not the heat, it's the humidity!" In my opinion, Houston has very nice weather overall except for the hottest months of July-September. During that season, it is uncomforably hot and humid so people stay in the AC for the most part. But the other 75% of the year, the temperatures are comfortable and mild with a very nice fall and spring and an easy
