Lots to Do but Extremely Hot in the Summer - 7/29/2009
There is lots to do, not just in Houston, but in the areas surrounding Houston. Visit the forums at www.frugaltexas.com to read about budget friendly activities, restaurants and shopping in the Houston area. If you don't mind driving you'll be able to experience an enormous amount living in the Houston area. From the beaches down in galveston and the islands off the coast to even College Station where the George Bush Library is located you'll always have something interesting to do. There are lots of opportunities for outdoorsy activities as well. Sam Houston Forest is to the north of Houston. plus there are lots of lakes and hiking trails around. There are wineries as well. I never run out of affordable things to do. Beware, it is exceptionally hot in the summers so you do need to look for indoor activities. Tons of museums though. You don't need to live inside of Houston to enjoy the amenities and work. You can live in one of the surrounding areas which may suit you

Although not an obvious choice, Houston school districts actually have a good number of top notch public schools and a diverse network of higher education oportunities. Not bad at

Closest thing to hell in the U.S. - 7/16/2009
This is a place where creativity and imagination go to die.
Too humid, too polluted, too flat, too congested, too bland, too industrialized, too many illegals, too many SUVs, too many idiots, too spread out, too commercialized, too focused on oil... need I go on?
Good? Um, it's cheap?
Houston might be doing fine right now, but in about fifty years give or take when America runs out of oil, it'll become the next Detroit. Until then, be like the lemmings and move in, get yourself a cheap house, and make tons of money while sweating profusely at all times and getting fat on all the food. I really don't get the love for Texas and I'm originally from here. I'd rather pay more money and live on one of the

Houston is a great multi-cultural city in which to live. The job market is still good;the city has a good balance of cultural and major sporting activities, universities, and affordable cost of living. The people are friendly; it is a fairly casual city, and it has an excellent selections of housing

Clear Lake, Houston - 4/23/2009
I really liked Clear Lake, Houston. I was a stay at home mom for a while there and it was great.
Pro:
The library is first class. It always has programs for children. The downtown has much to offer for entertainment. I felt very safe in Houston. Many times I forgot to lock my door and still felt safe. It was very easy to make friends.
Con:
Some neighborhoods are not as safe as Clear Lake. The heat and humidity is very unpleasant. Traffic to downtown is a pain.

Houston is one of the worst crime cities in America. That sanctuary city policy is really working! Let's add more gangbangers, drug dealers, welfare wonks and non-productive people to the list of those needing our

What I most appreciate about Houston is it's multi-culturalism. It is a vivid city, bustling with activities anywhere you go. I love hearing all the different languages spoken here, even on a supermarket line. I like the food diversity, the cultural diversity, the tolerance, the beautiful skyline, the green bayous and slow moving creeks. I like the mix of old and new in some neighborhoods. I also feel the youth in Houston in its music and nightlife. The movie theatres are always packed on the weekends, and so are the parks, no matter the size. I most enjoy easy strolling on Herman Park grounds, because I've done it since I was barely a toddler. I like the way Houstonians pull together to help other countries, and the way there's always a marathon going on in some part of the city to raise funds for good causes. My favorite place in downtown Houston is the Texas Museum of Natural History and the Heritage Park, I worked there when I was young and the Docents are really Houston

Need real answers... - 3/31/2009
I am not here to make harsh comments b/c I am not from Houston, Tx. I currently live in NY and looking to relocate to Houston, Tx but reading the reviews makes me have mixed thoughts. Shouldn't we consider that every large city has high crime rate? Having lived in NY almost all my life, I can say the crime rate is pretty high and is it really comparable to Houston? Is crime really as high as NY's??? Or is crime rate really based by certain towns or cities? I do care about crime rate more so than anyother category b/c it's important to know you live in a safe place. No one wants to be walking with eyes behind your head all the time and comments posted here really make you feel that way. Is it really that
